I have more than adequate stats to get into the schools I’m going to apply to but I’m wondering how much leaving a sizable portion of the application (Volunteer/Work) blank will hurt me in the admissions process at Georgia Tech, Michigan, and Illinois. I will be applying to the engineering schools if that makes any difference in the selection. Thanks!

Sorry about the typo in the title!

What about other ECs? School clubs? Music? Sports?

If you’ve got those, the specific lack of volunteer or work experiences shouldn’t hurt you much.

In other words, schools want to know – besides your stats/grades, what do you have to show for your four years of high school?

lol i have volunteer work, about 200 hours of it spread out over the last 4 years, but that’s not one of my major ECs, and if I want to mention it, it’ll have to be in the “Additional information” section. what do u think? should i mention it?

I run track (and am pretty good) and play golf. I played basketball my freshman and sophomore years. I am an active member of NHS. And 10th and 11th grade I was in the National Spanish Honors Society (I am not now b/c I am not taking Spanish this year).

sleepy, well, you have 3 sports and NHS. That’s not a lot for the very top schools but should be OK for the ones that interest you, provided you have very good grades and scores. Write a killer essay, mabye one in which you address the lack of work/volunteering on your ap, as in “I am so passionate about running I devote most of my free time to it” ;)

General Stats:
SAT: 780M 750R 690W (2220 Composite)
SATII: 770 Math II 720 Chem
Rank: 7/198
GPA: 4.01 UW (4.33 is an A+)

So will I be screwed out of admission just because I don’t want to suck up to admissions officers?
