How much will this affect my chances?

Freshman year - 3.86 GPA (All A’s 1 B)
Sophomore year - 4.0 GPA! (All A’s!)
Junior year (current) - on track to get 3.86 GPA (All A’s 1 B)

EC’s : Model UN Officer, Varsity Soccer, Varsity Track, Red Cross Club Officer, went to Nationals for Spelling Bee, and 100+ community service hours.

Haven’t received results on SAT/ACT yet, but I felt pretty confident when taking the 2 tests.

Now, I am not complaining about my GPA. I am more than proud of my GPA, however, the GPA which I showed was a calculation of my FINAL grades. Our school year is divided up in marking periods (each marking period is 1/4 of the school year). Now in freshman year, in the second and third marking period for biology, I got a C!!! However, my 1st MP and 4th MP grades were strong enough to bring it back up to a B. But I asked my counselor, and the final grades aren’t the only grades shown. Each marking period is shown. How will this affect my chances considering that freshman year is the first thing that the college admission officers see?!

My dream college is Princeton because I live in Princeton, but other target colleges are NYU, Cornell, UCLA, and UMich.

What are my chances in relation to these colleges?

Thank you!

3.8+ is good enough for any of the schools you mentioned. If you keep it up, your grades won’t be an issue.

Keep in mind, however, that nearly all successful applicants to those schools have an unweighted GPA between 3.8 and 4.0. It then comes down to everything else: rigor of your classes, whether you met the admission requirements (took the suggested classes, etc.), test scores, ECs, teacher recommendations, a great essay, how interesting you are, etc.

UCLA can be tough. Cornell chances vary by school.

Without an actual standardized test score, it is quite difficult to guestimate your chances for admission.

Thanks! However, I have worked very hard for my grades. I am not worried about my grades. What I am worried about is the how much a C in a single marking period (a quarter, not as a final grade) in freshman year will affect college’s perception on me. Especially considering that freshman grades are on the top left on my transcript.

.

it shouldn’t matter too much. grades aren’t an ultimatum. these schools really value top notch extras
