How much would having a 3.7 UC GPA hurt my chances?

Thank you Cremat0r! That gave me a lot of hope. :D

Some of you people disgust me for talking s**t just because you have perfect grades and stats. Some people are actually real world smart or aren’t snotty punks that think they own the world because they have perfect grades. I’m not trying to start a war or make people be fake nice but don’t come on here telling people they’re fu*ing hopeless because its not up to you so tell this person what they can do(as some already had) instead of trolling them this is a college help site use it right. Good luck explodingtoenail(your name made me laugh haha)

Haha thank you joseq. I appreciate your support. :)

“Some people are actually real world smart or aren’t snotty punks”

You’re absolutely right. Academic success has no correlation with real life success. The people who have altered the face of the Earth the most like Einstein and Gauss were just losers with no real world smarts. The people who developed the fertilizers that keep you fed, the medicine that keeps you alive (child mortality rates 100 years ago? No problem, you could’ve hit the two in three shot), the computer that you’re presumably typing into, the internet through which your message can reach the rest of the world . . . . those people are all losers right?

This sentiment of anti-intellectualism in this country disgusts me. The OP asked for chances for admittance, and the chances are objectively low. It is very rare, though not impossible, for someone with his or her stats to get in here and when he or she does, unless he or she puts in an extraordinary amount of effort, he or she will be near the bottom of his or her class and inevitably struggle academically. How many people come on here complaining about hopelessly getting terrible sub 3.0 grades despite struggling and investing in large amounts of time? A lot. I’m assuming that the OP wants an honest opinion, so we’re not going to be sugarcoating things just to preserve his self esteem.

And one more thing. We giving the OP an opinion of his chances at admissions says nothing about our own academic abilities, so what is it that makes us snotty?

We can tell you what you want to hear, but the fact is that your chances of admission as a freshman applicant are very slim. The 4-5% that are admitted from your GPA range likely have something extraordinary… Perhaps they’re athletes or something. Writing a killer personal statement probably won’t be enough.

If you want to attend Berkeley, spend two years at community college. That’s your best path right now. It gives you the opportunity to start over, with a blank slate. If you don’t want to attend community college, you’ll be attending a lesser UC or a CSU. And don’t think you can attend a CSU for two years and then transfer to Berkeley. It’s possible, but community college applicants have priority.

I forgot to mention that 3.7 is the GPA unweighted. With the AP points it’s a 4.00.

Oh man that came out wrong… awkward.

You don’t have to get super competitive GPAs in order to get into your dream school. Just get some grades that are reasonably competitive for the school that you want to go to and write an essay that will set yourself out of the crowd as much as possible, and you will be in the school of your choice.
