How much would this be worth?

Sorry for constantly asking questions but recently something not-so-good has happened.
I had joined AGS last semester but because of miscommunication, I was unable to get credit for it because I lacked one hour at the fundraising part. I was going to fulfill what I needed this semester but for some reason, the school had made the deadline sooner than last semester and I have just horrifically realized I had missed it.
Although I am trying to get a regular position for tutoring, it’ll be something that I have started this semester and I believe it’ll be difficult.
Currently, my extracurriculars are the cello (though I don’t play the instrument anymore but I have done it for about 5 or 6 years) and the couple hours from tutoring and the negligible amount of volunteering that I did during high school.
My house is located in the middle of nowhere while my school and most opportunities are in a bustling city in which my parents have to drive me for quite a bit. I was wondering if it was worth it to drive 30 to 45 minutes to get some hours of community service.
I have a 3.8 gpa right now and my major is the impacted biology.

Not a whole lot. I wouldn’t say it’s worth it.

I’m in AGS too and the instructor in charge is flexible with extending deadlines. have you asked him/her if he could make an exception for you? I mean, it’s only an hour right? I would ask him to and then go get it done asap. So is this part of your 20 hour commitment? So you did 19?

My instructor is incredibly strict on this (and the society in general). I’ve heard couple of other people who had this problem as well and all failed to get the credit.
It’s part of 15 because I got an exemption. The usual required is 30 hours and because I was doing even less than other people, the instructor wasn’t too happy when I tried to discuss about it last semester.

That’s weird. Our AGS requirements are 15 hours off campus volunteering, and 5 on campus. I have no idea why your campus is doubling that and being so strict. A friend of mine at another campus is also doing 20 hours total, so yours seems to be the exception. I would write the society itself and see what they think. Maybe there’s an appeal process?

Agree with fullload. The guys a jerk. Maybe talk to some admin at the CCC.

In today’s society, groups like AGS need to count their blessing there’s even students who care enough to join. Academics and honor programs have taken a back seat ever since the decline of funding across the board. Clubs are marginalized. Students barely know what to do when they arrive at a CC, let alone find their way to an academic fraternity.

For this guy to be sweating you over missing one hour of volunteer work is insanity and he needs to be talked to by someone in AGS. This guy has lost the entire meaning behind volunteer work. He’s basically denying you the opportunity to go help someone for an hour, giving back to your community and school, because you missed some arbitrary deadline. So now someone goes without your help because this guy wants to be a jerk.

At my campus we’re begging people to join, and every single student we come across didn’t even know it existed. Please, be sure to update us on this. In fact, if you are denied that hour, let me know and I will make some calls myself on behalf of my chapter. This is BS.

“This guy has lost the entire meaning behind volunteer work. He’s basically denying you the opportunity to go help someone for an hour, giving back to your community and school, because you missed some arbitrary deadline.”

SO WELL SAID!

You need to get that reversed @Jazzy4Monkey‌

Ah, the AGS in my school is fairly big. Maybe that’s why they’re so strict.
Thanks for the concern but considering how distant I was to the club and what little interest I had, it is really my fault that I couldn’t get all those hours and I feel that after being rejected by the instructor, it’s something that I don’t really have a right to push for and I don’t think it’s really worth my time to argue with people about something I didn’t put my heart into.
I was just wondering whether the extra drive to do some volunteering was worth it.
Thank you for the responses!

What an ass.

As far as applications, it’s probably not worth it. There are really no opportunities around where you live? I mean by “middle of nowhere” do you mean only house in 50 miles, or small town of a couple thousand? Because I lived in a very small town and I was able to find some. Or maybe you could create your own opportunity? Like something wildlife related? Good luck.
