How much would you pay for an accounting degree? [IU, Kentucky, or Santa Clara]

I think this is important and is worth repeating. Can your student revisit some of these colleges as an accepted student? Perhaps that will help the student decide where they want to study for the next four years.

They are all good choices.

What if another west coast school is in the mix now but does not offer accounting? Can someone get an accounting job graduating from Scripps College perhaps by taking classes from Claremont McKenna?

I don’t recall any mention of any other CA college in this thread.

I initially was comparing UK, IU and SCU so Santa Clara University is the original CA school.

Well…I’ll pitch Santa Clara because my DD is a graduate. Her roommate was a business major, but not accounting. I can’t really give you info about accounting.

SCU is a terrific small university. But your family needs to be on board with the cost of attendance which is pretty high.

If you want general answers about SCU, I’d be glad to give you my opinion in that regard.

@happy1 should be able to tell you what it takes to be an accountant.

The Econ-Accounting program is not offered by Scripps, but thru CMC. Scripps students can apply for entrance into Econ-Accounting, so it’s doable but requires jumping thru hoops and admission to that major is not a sure thing.

But do Econ-Accounting majors from CMC get jobs? Absolutely. But again, a CPA requires additional coursework beyond a 4-year degree.

How did you manage the housing since it isn’t guaranteed all four years at SCU?

There is quite a bit of off campus housing very close to the campus. My kid shared a house with six others that was literally a walk across a small street. House was on a cul de sac with several other houses.

None of my kids friends had any problems finding a place to live.

Cost…all in was a little less than living on campus with a meal plan.
