How necessary would the ACT be for these schools?

I already took the SAT and received a 2270: 770 Math, 770 CR, 730 Writing

One concern of mine is that my writing was horrible, I received a 730 only because I missed one on the multiple choice (but got a 7/12 on the essay… yeah I know that sucks). And maybe I should take the ACT with its writing section to make sure the 7/12 on the SAT doesn’t become a hindering factor?

In the past, I have taken ACT practice tests, I do very well on all the sections except for its reading section which I always run out of time on, dropping my composite down to a low 30.

My top schools are:

Wash U
U Mich
Stanford
Duke
Rice

Are you joking? I wouldn’t worry about it at all. Your scores are fine. I just looked up the SAT ranges for Duke for another thread, so I’ll repost them here.

Verbal 690-770
Math 690-780
Writing 680-780

As you can see, your scores are sitting very comfortably in their range. I suggest you spend your time working on your essays rather than worrying about retaking the SAT.

and realize that the writing score might still be weighed less than the other two scores next year.

thankyou all for your replies,

but should I take the ACT for the sake of submitting an ACT score to these colleges?

don’t stress, it’s fine.
