hiii. so i really want to go to Illinois, but I missed the EA deadline, so i will find out in two weeks with the RD/deferred applicants. I am a URM and I wonder how often admissions standards are bent for black/latino students.
The presidential award program at Illinois gives up to 4000 a year to URMs that are either in the top half of their class with a 24 ACT OR in the top 10% of their class with a 22+. I have a 27 ACT and I am in the top 25% of my class. Will I get into Illinois?
And im not applying anywhere super selective like business or engineering.

Being a URM will not help you bypass a deadline. Sorry.

lacrossemom: that wasn’t his question.

IBkid2011: I think you have a great shot for UIllinois, a 27 is a pretty decent ACT and I’m pretty sure it falls in the mid-50 range for DGS. Your GPA isn’t too bad either. URM will help as well…

You are correct? I just read the title and scanned the rest. His stats should get him in regardless of ethnicity.

I’m not sure I understand the question (which is a bit provocative). Why do you need admission standards bent if you meet the standard for a presidential award? Oh, I see, you have to be admitted to get the award, and your’e not sure how you stack up. Have you seen this?

How Do I Stack Up?

@lacrossemom, i missed the EA deadline - everything was recieved 12/13
@shrinkrap right, i wasn’t sure if I’d get in.
@alihaq717 thank you.

Everything being equal, URM status brings advantages in college admissions process. However, If you are considering “bending the rules”, that may not be possible. Based on your stats, you are not too far from the admitted group. Scholarship? I don’t have enough information to tell. Overall, this year seems to be tougher than last, as far as admission is concerned.

Wow… what a way to set up your life and expectations…“Can the rules be bent for me because of my ethnicity”…How about accomplishing things on your merits instead of a crutch. I dont know if you noticed…but a black man got elected President of the USA… It’s over…this is proof positive that you can reach the stars on your own. Step up to the plate. Stop looking for angles and excuses. You willll feel a lot better about your accomplishments if you earn them legitimately. Good luck to you.
