How often do you eat out for dinner per month? For lunch?

Please include having pizza delivered and getting carryout.

In the area where we live, it seems that EVERYONE goes out to eat on a frequent basis. If you don’t get to the restaurant by 5 or 5:30 pm, there are lines out the door. This occurs 7 days a week! We recently went to a family-oriented restaurant around 6:30 on a cold and rainy Tuesday night. We had to wait almost 45 minutes to get a table!

I’ll get the survey started. On average, we go out for dinner once a month and get carryout once a month. I eat out for lunch 3-4 times a month.

I eat out or carry in food for lunch about 6 days a week (every work day and one weekend day). We bring food in for dinner about 2 nights a week and probably have about 5 dinners out a month. Not fancy. Breakfast out maybe 3 times a month after training runs or races. Geez- I don’t know. Eating out is big in our area, too.

Eating out is definitely big in my area. I’d say that my office is probably half take-out lunch on any given day. I try to pack lunches and eat breakfast at home, and I’m pretty good about it most of the time. When I’m really busy, being good about packing a lunch is the first thing to go, though. And my lunches tend to be leftover dinners a lot of the time, so if I’m feeling lazy and grab a burrito out or something for dinner, there’s a good chance I’m buying lunch out the next day, too. If I need to be at work early for some reason, I buy breakfast a lot of the time, too.

My general goal is to make my eating out intentional, though – like if I am meeting a friend for dinner or giving myself a treat at the end of a long week, that’s fine, but if I’m just being lazy I should be cooking my dinner.

We eat out probably about once every 6 weeks or so. Carry out maybe once every 2/3 weeks (usually pizza).

Lunch maybe once or month or so, usually to catch up with a friend/family member. Mostly I eat lunch at home, as my teaching schedule is in the mornings.

Our frequency increases in the summer because we spend our time in a vacationish area and have a lot of visitors–still mostly eat in or at other family’s homes in the area, but sometimes go out for a lunch or breakfast with visitors.

We’ve really reduced our income, and any decision to spend extra has to be carefully considered.

We eat out at fancy restaurants at least three times a year - and one or two more times when family visits. When my younger is home (he’s in college now) we probably go to eat BBQ at least every other week. We almost never have take out. We probably eat out at ethnic restaurants and the like with friends another three or four times a year. I never eat out for lunch. DH almost never. DH often eats dinner out with visiting speakers (he’s at a university.)

I must be eating out much more often than the rest of you. Trying really hard to eat more meals in but there are nights that are so busy that there isn’t time to cook. I treat myself to lunch out about once every two weeks on payday. Unless I forget my lunch I eat in. For dinner we probably eat out twice a week, if you include pizza or other such type of carryout.

My work gets carry out just about every day. I have incredible coworkers who pay for my lunch :)

Other than that, we’ll get takeout 3-4 times a week. A typical meal at a restaurant can easily feed me for a few days.

Plus I’m just way too tired to cook at night and our kitchen is grossly outdated and a PITA to use the appliances. I plan on cooking a lot more when I move into a better place.

We eat out a lot too. Averages about once a week at a restaurant and once a week take in. Most often very casual, inexpensive, and often ethnic (which I do not cook well). I also get a salad from the cafe most days at work for lunch. I cook about 5 dinners a week at home and make a big effort to make those healthy. Eating out is really recreation/entertainment for me (versus a break from cooking). Take in is for time management benefit!

We get take out, usually pizza, a couple of times a month.

We pack lunches, no eating out.

Less eating out in our area, my H andI go out once every six weeks or so.

We used to eat out much more often but cut way back - it just added up to too much money. And my younger kids are not adventurous/ fine diners,so it was kind of a waste to take them out.

About once a week. But that doesn’t necessarily mean pricey restaurants. Dinner for two with a glass of wine and coffee runs from $35 to $75 at most restaurants in our part of NYS. My wife and I don’t eat dessert so that’s our “sacrifice” for tuition.

Dh eats lunch out about 2-3X/wk and drinks Ensure on the other days. His coworkers eat out almost daily (M-F) for lunch and say they go out to dinner about 4X/wk. I haven’t worked outside the home in >25 years, so my lunch is always DIY to use up leftovers. We rarely (2X/yr?) go out to dinner locally; nearly all of our restaurant meals are eaten on vacation (7 - 10 days/yr.) We do get take-out Chinese meals about once a month, and we bake frozen CPK pizzas from the grocery store about 2x/mo. instead of ordering pizzas.

I’d love to go out more often, but I have some medical issues that make it difficult at best.
On the plus side, I’ve learned to cook pretty well since going out became problematic. When we do go out, I want to enjoy foods that are either too complicated for me to prepare at home, require difficult to obtain ingredients, and/or require extensive clean-up afterwards (such as frying.)

I cook dinner four nights a week, because I enjoy it. We have a dinner party about once a month or so. We eat at friends’ places about twice a month and go out to dinner the rest of the time.

Breakfast is healthy and easy grab and go from home.

H eats lunch out. I rarely eat lunch, just a zone or atkins bar. Usually after a workout.

We have at least one nice restaurant dinner a week, and sometimes two. I rarely cook on Saturday, and that’s usually a night out. Occasionally we go out on Fridays as well, and once in a while mid-week (we went out last night for Valentine’s day). We order take out once a week as well - usually on Friday or Sunday night if we are not going out. When I order take out, I usually cook one or two simple things and the take out is a supplement. I still have kids at home, and they often have friends over, so I typically cook for 5-6 people every night, and I feel like I really need one or two nights off.

We have several top notch restaurants nearby that we frequent, and we’re lucky that there is a lot to choose from in our area. I’d rather cook something simple than eat at a place like Olive Garden or Texas Roadhouse. I attended a school fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse a few months ago, and I couldn’t believe how bad it was - I really couldn’t find anything on the menu that sounded good, and what I ended up ordering was inedible.

We go out most Friday nights with a group of friends and usually spend $40-$50 per couple. I don’t go out or do take out for breakfast or lunch, but I think my husband goes out twice a week for lunch. I like to cook and make a point of making enough for leftovers.

We generally skip the chains and eat out at about 3 nights per week…half price pizza night at a legendary local bar/pizza place; another night is Mexican fiesta night with a big group of friends; the third varies depending on what we are doing.

Since our kids left we have been eating out much more. I’d say our deal is that I cook M-TH and we eat out/take-in Fri-Sun. It’s extravagant, and we could certainly cut back, but it’s working for now. These aren’t fancy, expensive dinners, just dinners I don’t have to cook!

H and I get carry out every Friday night, usually from the same place with an occasional foray to another restaurant. We’ve been doing this for almost 30 years now, so we’re pretty chummy with the owners of those restaurants.

On top of that, we go out another 2-3 times per month to other restaurants. Neither one of us ever eat out for lunch, though.

Feels like all the time. Dinner/Supper averages 2.5 times a week. Sunday night is pizza night. We order from one of two local places. H and I go out every Friday. Sometimes, in the middle of the week, if d2 has something to do, we go out then, too.

I almost never go out for weekday lunch. I’d say once a month. Dh probably has lunch out almost every day.

Very rarely, maybe once every 2-3 months, and even then it is rarely our entire family (either H takes the kids because I am busy, or I take them when he travels). We order take out pizza about twice a month (always Papa Murphys, but lately I learned how to make a no knead pizza dough, which is excellent, I freeze it and we can have pizza in no time).

I love to cook and cook almost daily, we pack lunches for work. I think DH eats lunch out about 1-2 /week and kids go out to eat with friends on occasions. But as a family we absolutely prefer to eat at home!

I have a close friend who used to eat out almost daily and rarely cooked at home. She changed that habit over a year ago and now they eat out on occasions only. As a result both she and her husband have lost more than 30 pounds (each). No other changes, just cooking at home ;)

Definitely not in all cases, but it is also interesting to look at the physical condition of those that eat out more frequently too. Where I work, the people that don’t take the time to pack lunch and eat out also often pick up frozen cappucinnos for breakfast and speak of eating out several times a week. Not speaking about you people, but the people I know maKE A LOT of excuses for not preparing meals!!!

I pack my breakfast and lunch for work daily. Maybe get lunch out once a month during the work week (and then it’s usually simple). We order in something once a week or so on the weekend and maybe do pizza once a month. There are exceptions but te above is more the “rule”
