How often do you guys get new laptops? Also how much is your phone and laptop?

Yes, when is the best time to get new (if necessary) laptops and phones? I need to keep up with the times

Also do you guys buy it from your college?

I replace my phone either when I can get it upgraded or when the contract expires. As for computers…its difficult to completely “keep up with the times” because of the speed at which newer models come out, personally I use mine till they are dead.

I buy a new laptop around the time when the processor speeds and ram increase, and the price is the same as my last. It is necessary to have a computer school, and vital for college. I always get smart phones because you can do anything on them. They are your gps, calendar, alarm clock, time passer, quick reference (dictionary, google). I upgrade every 18 months with verizon. Hopefully I the iphone 5 releases in may, that will be my next phone.

I bought my laptop on black friday. Got an hp 17.3 inch g72 laptop originally $700 for $400. When I can get an upgrade or renew my contract I research my phone, I got the hd2 knowing that windows mobile 6.5 sucks dlck but I was able to switch it to android. Also the hd2 is versatile, it can be switched to windows phone 7, android, ubuntu, and other os. Look at the specs of the phone. To tell the truth the only differences in phones today is the operating systems (android or windows) and the processing speeds. Newer phones are starting to include glassless 3d display along with 3d cameras (dual camera) and dual core processing.

I tend to replace my laptop whenever the repairs on it become no longer worth the money, both due to the extent and to outdated technology. My last laptop (before the MacBook Pro I bought last year, which was $1,400, I think) had both serious hardware and OS issues after two years of ownership, so I had to replace it. The laptop before that lasted four years.

I replace my phone when it breaks. I have a Droid 2 now, which I think was $150 with a rebate. It’s awful.

Computers: Get a new one when the old one breaks beyond repair.

Phones: Whenever you are eligible for upgrade.

Phone- when the contract expires

Laptop- when one dies, which mine is getting there soon, so I’m getting a new Mac sometime this summer

My IBM Thinkpad that originally ran Windows 98 is still running strong! However, I might get a new one soon, the charger broke and the $80 for a new charger is worth more than the computer…

I get a new one whenever the old one breaks. I got my current laptop for $500 during a black Friday sale, and my current phone for $70. I don’t like contracts and I like being able to just pay $25 a month for everything I could possibly want to do with my phone and be able to stop whenever I want.

Phone- when the contract expires.

Computer, I’m on my second one. I got my first laptop in eighth grade, and it finally quit on me the summer before freshman year of college. I got a MacBook Pro with the college students deal Apple has, and got a free iPod and printer with it.

I got my laptop 3 years ago. I plan on using it for another 3 years at least. The one before this one I used for 5 years.

As for my phone, I’m still using an original iphone. Its 4 years old.

Laptop: I usually get a new laptop every 5-6 years or until the current one breaks down or is just really slow.

Phone: I upgrade on my plan every 19 months. Finally have a smartphone now, its so awesome having everything at your fingertips.

Can’t you renew your contract for phone?

I get a new computer whenever the old one breaks beyond repair or becomes unreliable. My current one is four years old and I am replacing it as soon as I have the money. I got this one new for when I started college. But its already cost me ridiculous amounts of money in repairs and the fans are quitting and it’s just not reliable anymore, I am tired of worrying about it. No idea what I am going to get, the new one will be the first computer I’ve gotten to pick for myself. My current one is a ****tastic dell.

My phone I replace whenever the old one breaks. I’ve had three phones in the last six years. We don’t replace phones until we are both phoneless and eligible for an upgrade.

What upgrades? How do you become “eligible” for it? What plans do you guys use? Or do they come with the new phone?

^Normally after a few years you get the option to upgrade your phone…but it also extends your contract a few years as well.

You guys are cracking me up. A recent high school graduate “usually” replacing his laptop “every 5-6 years”? How many posters here are actually old enough to have established laptop replacement routines?

I replace my laptop when fixing would just be the same as replacing it with a new one. When it comes to my cellphone, I don’t easily replace it with the latest model since I don’t think it is necessary. As long as my smart phone is working, then it is good enough for me.

Where do you guys buy your phones or check out the specs? Online or do you go to the shop and buy?

^Verizon store online, good deals ordering online sometimes. (If you have verizon)

I replace my laptop after the previous one breaks, takes about 4 years for me, I’m a heavy user.

As far as how much I spend?
I still have my old LG Dare which was like 200$ when I first bought it, my laptops cost upwards of 1400-2000$ (Gaming laptops)
