Our older son never calls. I can probably count on the fingers of one hand how often he has called. He never texts, in the four years in college he initiated a handful of emails and responded to most of mine with one word answers.

Younger son calls us once a week. Texts occasionally. He skyped us in Jordan, and texts us when he’s changing planes.

I don’t need to hear from them once a week in general. Back when I was in college my parents were in Africa. I wrote them newsy letters once a week. What I’d like is more news than I get in the calls. I’d be happy to get emails, but I don’t!

My son attended camps where you could call home if you wished but it was not mandatory. He never called us, which was fine by us because we knew he was having the time of his life.

Now that he is at college, we asked for a phone call every two weeks, which he is very good about. He updates his facebook page at least every other day, so we follow along there and feel like we have a general idea of what is going on in his life.

My son has always been an independent spirit, even as a little guy. We try to respect that and he respects our wishes to hear his voice at least every other week. If he wanted to call everyday, that would be fine too. Different kids, different needs.

I follow my older daughter on Twitter- so I learn random tidbits, like when she missed the bus, what her kids say ( she is a teacher) & that she felt the need to explain why she was buying a single can of beer ( for the earwigs).

With the youngest- she doesn’t call except when she is in another country/catching a train/ill/out of money/lost her wallet/missed her flight.
She does email & text though- but I am not on her Facebook/twitter.

Well I am 53 and have siblings between the ages of 41-54 and between the 5 of us we talk to our parents at least once a day. We like them and find them interesting. It is actually 7 of us because two of the sister in laws call them also.

I forgot the grandchildren that are adults 5 of 8 also call frequently at least once a week each. I’m surprised my parents do not change their phone number we bother them so much.

That is really nice your parents are still alive Tom1944, neither of mine are. ( we are the same age
)

ek- we know we are very lucky. Their health is good also- so we are extra lucky. My dad (78) was upset the other day because he can no longer do 10 pull ups.
