How Online Courses will affect Lessons

Hi all,

Recently, Stanford, in collaboration with other universities, announced a series of courses that they will be conducting in the near future. I was wondering, how will this affect the lessons in Stanford? Will the actual onsite lessons be identical to the online lessons? I took the AI and Machine Learning online course last year, and I remembered reading on one of the Stanford student’s blog that the Stanford students weren’t too happy that they were also told to watch the videos or something and felt that the quality of teaching got reduced. If I were one of the students, I think I would also grumble a bit. I can understand the rationale of providing free lessons to the public, and I find it noble. However, since I will be paying school fees, I find it a bit unacceptable if my lessons are compromised as a result of pursuing this noble objective. Therefore, I wonder what is Stanford’s current stance on this, and what arrangements have been made?

Thank you very much!

I’ve been some classes that were streamed. Except for the camera five or six rows from the front, I never felt like the classes were any different from non-streamed ones.
