In terms of its reputation/prestige…

I am not a student, but I don’t think it’s overrated at all. It has a great reputation and is very prestigious for a state college.

PSU seems to be strong across the board, especially for a state school. they just built a brand new information technology building-- it’s absolutely beautiful. i their average starting salary for an IT grad is significantly higher than the mean (i think they claim to push $55-60k starting). they’ve got pretty good musical theater and visual art programs, although as with any art school, you’re not going to get as rigorous of an ART education as you would at a specialized art institute or highly-ranked-art university (ie. WUSTL, CMU), although PSU is right up there. i know when i was looking for art-savvy universities, PSU was on the list (and quite possibly where i’ll end up next year).

in a completely different realm, and take it for what you will, but something like 1 in every 7 meteorologists has a degree from penn state. that’s gotta mean something.
