How pathetic is it to take 3 leaves of absences from university?

I have already taken 2, for mental health issues, and I cant even finish out the next month. I’m trying to get incompletes from the university so I can finish out these credits, instead of having to redo them/withdraw from the classes.
I’m 3 semesters away from graduation, and my grades are fine. My issues are so bad and I’m about to be hospitalized. Nothing really gets better so I just end up in the same place and I can’t really do school or live a normal life with my problems. I have the choppiest job record too because I have to leave so often.

or…

“How awesome is it that you are only 3 semesters away from graduating, with a decent GPA, despite having to deal with difficult mental health issues!!!”

If you don’t finish school, then where will you be in 1.5 years? 1.5 years older with no degree.
yes, there are many people who finish in 4 years, but there are others who have family/health/financial issues and take longer. It is better to take LOA than to fail classes. You can read all of the stories on CC about people who are on academic probation because they didn’t try to get help for their issues. You are getting help, and working with the colleges rules to do it right. Keep chugging along!
But try to get your health figured out first. Best of luck!

Agree - wait until your health is figured out. Most universities are somewhat understanding, and you’ve gotten through a lot already.

As for a job record, going to college and working is not a great idea for anyone. Are you able to not work when you are back to health and go to finish up your last three semesters?

Incompletes are not the best idea if you don’t have a timeline to complete the work, it will just make you feel worse. See if you can withdraw for medical reasons and get a refund. Incompletes are really if you only miss one exam or one or two other things late in the semester, not for missing half the semester.

Do you think once you get your degree anyone will care how long it took to get it? You just list your graduation date, and many people don’t list their HS or HS graduation date on resumes.

The sad part is that many kids struggle with similar issues in HS, but don’t have as many options. At least in college, there are policies in place.

Good luck and get better soon - I don’t think the way to get better is to have half-done classes hanging over your head…
(I’m not a doctor, etc. - your university might have free counseling, many do)

not pathetic at all! Geez, people take 5, 6, 7 YEARS sometimes to get through college…you’re just a few semesters away…you’re cool…deal with everything going on…worry about school later…this will work out!

Good for you for recognizing that what you’ve been doing isn’t working (consistently!) and taking steps to deal with it! Now, while you’re in the stress of the situation, write a note to your future self detailing what it is that’s making it really tough - too many classes? Work-school balance? No margin for social life/getting sick etc? Then, in the future, past you can save yourself from getting in over your head again by reminding you to take a partial courser load/cut your work hours/ eat rught/ do yoga/ whatever. There’s no one “right” way to do this college thing.

It’s absolutely not “pathetic.”

Your health needs to be attended to. It doesn’t matter whether which part of your health we’re talking about.

College is not a race. There’s no prize for finishing in 4 years.

People who think you are pathetic are the pathetic ones.
