how prestigious is the Princeton Book Award?

my girlfriend (kind of) got a nomination for the princeton book award.

she sent it in a while ago. i have faith that she’ll get it cuz shes such a good writer

how prestigious is it?

compared to the colby college book award? compared to the harvard book award? compared to the middlebury book award? compared to all the other book awards?

how prestigious is it compared to my position as the soccer captain?

will it really help her with her already-solid college application?

I don’t think it does that much for your college app. Doesn’t hurt, but…won’t boost your chances that much. Same goes for the other book awards so really having the Princeton book award as opposed to the Harvard book award or ‘insert college name’ book award doesn’t make a big difference.

^ I second that. Book awards are a nice pat on the back, but they don’t mean much. In my school, the teachers choose them, so it’s not like the college is picking the winners.

But only lik…12 kids from our state get to get this award.

It trounces your captain of the soccer team, especially since you keep bragging about it and there are about 6 other captains on your team.

Stop using the word prestigious, its stupid. Back to your question, yes I think that the Princeton Book Review is a highly regarded award for high school literary achievement.

I got the UVA Book Award last year…i mean it looks nice and u get high praise from local community but nationally it means ****…because you’re nominated by local ppl not colleges or anything like that.

but very few kids get this award tho!!! like 12 or somethin

I think each school gives out an award to one student. Sure, it’s nice; it shows that your teachers like you. However, it’s no “Intel Finalist” or anything like that…

^ no, LISTEN.

there is about 12 students that get it per state.

thats not a lot.

Do you want everyone to tell you it is prestigious/amazing/wonderful or something? Because people ARE telling you thier opinions. The fact is that it is not on the same level as Intel Finalist or things like that–just like some have said. But I think it may certainly help an application. It’s a nice thing to have. In comparison to soccer captain it’s more ‘prestigious’ (book award=12/state, soccer captain=much more/state). But w/e.

You newbs think that your questions are so novel - and that NOBODY ** EVER ** IN THE HISTORY OF CC.COM has asked this question before. Well, guess what:

it’s given out by local alumni associations. Like posters above have said, it’s a very nice award – I’m sure it helps, at least a little. But the thing is, it’s a local award, not a national one. So bottom line: congrats to your gf on getting it, that’s wonderful. She’s obviously one of the best students in your area, but that doesn’t mean it’s going to be a major resume-booster.

but… so FEW ppl get to get this award!

LIKE… only 6 ppl per state!!!

that’s so littttttle.

BTW…

do only your JUNIOR teachers decide on teacher-nominated book awards?

or do all the teachers from all your years decide?

cuz this year, not a lot of my teachers love me, as they did sophomore year

any kind of award helps, especially the more prestigious ones…but you never really know. I don’t have the best grades, but if I get my book published (fingers crossed) I’m not sure if that could help at all.

If you don’t want to hear other people’s opinions, then don’t ask for them. If you’re convinced that the award is uber-prestigious, then good for you ^_^

Edit: And from your previous posts, you seem fanatically obsessed with “prestige.” This may sound trite, but most successful applicants do things because they LIKE doing them. Whoa! :)

It’s a committee of teachers ?? likeley from your all your years in high school.

Princeton alum give them to schools and give the schools the power to choose who deserves them. And no, it’s not just 6 kids per state that get them.

^^^^^ but she had to write an ESSAY… and none other of the book awards need essays

btw…

do only your junior-year teachers decide on book awards?
