I am extremely proud to say I have been accepted to be a Senate Page in fall 2014 (I leave in 2 weeks!). I was curious as to how prestigious it is. Well, I know its very prestigious, but does anyone know how much it will help with college admission? Any pages in the past know? I also have a 4.22 GPA and a 1940 SAT score.

What is the senate page program?

Congratulations on Senate Page! It’s a great program. Both of my sons have done it and it was an unforgettable experience for both of them. As to your question–if you’re asking if admissions officers are going to be scrambling to admit you because you were a Senate Page, the answer is “no”. Senate Page is a very well respected program. Senate Pages generally do well in college admissions from what I know on a rather limited basis. Senate Page is a national award and should be listed as such on your applications.

However, most (not all, but most) Senate Pages already have an impressive resume’ when they are accepted as pages. They generally continue to excel after their page term is over. My uneducated guess (because I am not an admissions officer) is that when admissions officers see that you were a Senate Page, they definitely take notice. However, it is just one line on an extensive application. Depending on how selective the college is, they will probably want to see more on your awards list than just Senate Page. There are only around 200 Pages per year, though (maybe not even that many? Not sure.), so it’s not going to be an award that a lot of applicants list. But, will it be a “hook” that makes up for shortcomings on your application? At most colleges, probably not. It is an honor to be VERY proud of, however. And I would definitely think that it will stand out as a great accomplishment when you apply for college. :)

I agree with everything @happykidsmom said. I was a page Fall 2013 and it was definitely the best time of my life! It’s definitely an honor to be proud of. And there are only 60 people per year that actually do it during the school year (having summer page on a resume isn’t quite as impressive as you don’t have to balance school with work). The English teacher there will give you a whole packet of stuff about college admissions and give you lots of information regarding recommendation letters from the page program, etc. Good luck!

does anyone know the requirements other than the GPA, and grades? like classes, transcripts? Do I need to have taken classes on government…?
Suzy Lee Weiss was a US Senate Page and she was rejected by her top 4 choices - Yale, Princeton, Upenn, and Vanderbilt.
