Hello, I ranked as 3rd in the national toronto biology competition and I was wondering how prestigious this award is. I did look at the awards thread and did not find any mention of this, so if you can help me, that would be nice. Also, I am afraid that this award is not as well known or as hard as some of the other nationally recognized awards since I am a US applicant instead of a canadian one.

So yeah I don’t know what that is, but a placement that high in any national competition is prestigious! Congrats!

Yes that’s my fear. I’m afraid that the colleges admissions will see this in a lesser light because it is not too well known in the US

Admissions officers have a tool called Google at their disposal. Ranking third in a national competition sounds good. If that strikes their interest but they haven’t heard of the particular competition, they can look it up.

Where is awards thread?

Right, but would it rank similar to say top 20 in the Usabo? I don’t think so because its not as known…

You can just Google awards on cc and it should show up

You shouldn’t be “afraid” about how admissions will view an award on your application. It’s a good looking award and can only help you. Whether or not they know it’s prestige is not something you can control and not something you should worry about.

Well its more curiosity than anything else, but thanks. Anyone else know?

Well i would believe that it is very pretegious and should be honored all the time. uversitylife.com is a great place to blog about this as well if you our interested?
