Its like this. There will be a 10-day gap (travelling, etc.) between the last time I play soccer at my club, and my tryouts for the college team.
Does one forget a skill like soccer (I don’t mean completely forget, but not be in your peak form) in such a short period of time?

well for one mate its called FOOTBALL! not soccer!

so thats where your going wrong already!

you will lose your sharpness for sure but not a massive amount, this season all the players from Europe had a 3/4 week gap from the world cup to their pre season and they come back totally unfit and lacking sharpness

I agree with you, its football. I myself am from an erstwhile British colony. But writing football can create confusion on an American website.

just bring a ball with you wherever you go. play with it during your free minutes. and try to include anyone who is around you. it might be a bit of a hassle, but its worth it.

tch its futbol

i havent playd for a year, and I was in top shape in about 10 minutes

^then you musta been *****

just do your best to keep in shape. running, etc.

I know what you mean. For me it’s golf and when I take a couple of days off (or in this case a whole year) I forget the basics like following through, twist the wrists yada yada yada. But it all comes back withing a couple of holes.

I got a question too. I think I can answer myself but part of me wants to hear the answer. For college, are there tryouts (in general, the school matters yes) for club sports?

Blink, it doesnt even depend on the school as much as the sport. For really competitive teams there will be tryouts, but those are also probably going to be the most fun. Teams that get less players will just let you on, they’re usually more laid back.

Topofthe_kop, yes it should be football but if you don’t want to get laughed at keep in mind that football stateside usually refers to the pigskin and that insisting that people call soccer by its proper name may be “cute” for a while but pretty soon will get pretty annoying.

You will lose some of the sharpness, so just try to bring the ball with you and play pickup games or something. I’m sure they won’t start judging you right away during tryouts anyway and that you will get a chance to warm up and play around a little and that will get some of it back (you won’t lose that much in 10 days, you’re not going to forget how to dribble)
