I know in general the number of 4.0s decline as students move from Intro classes to major-related ones, but does anyone have any numbers or estimates on what percentage of students still maintain a 4.0 after a given semester?

For example, those who have it after firstsemFr, those who still have it after 2ndsemFr, still have it after firstsemSoph, and so forth.

In my experience, the number of 4.0s increase as you move into the major courses. The class is generally more able and talented because of self-selection (i.e. the history majors are not in the upper level astrophysics seminars). Although if you choose a major that isn’t well suited for you, the number of 4.0s you earn may decrease.

I think you may be thinking of the number of people who receive an A or its equivalent (or A+'s?!?) in a class for a major. But what about the rough portion of students who maintain a cumulative 4.0 throughout a semester, and then the next semester, and so forth?

Who knows. I doubt anyone has those kind of statistics.
