How reachy is this?

A kid’s SAT, ACT and GPA are almost exactly at the mid-point of a college’s data set. The school has a 38% acceptance rate.

How reachy?

Umm…pretty difficult to guess. If he writes marvelous essays he is bound to be accepted but if he writes a clumsy one he might not qualify. A less than 40% acceptance rate means that the college should have a holistic approach.

DougBetsy: so many more questions before answer can be given…Is there ED? what % of the class is admitted ED? Is it a need-blind school?

If the school has ED is the ED acceptance rate higher or lower than the RD rate?

Some schools that have a “so-called” 38% acceptance rate could have a 60% ED acceptance with a MUCH lower RD acceptance rate…making the said school a “reach” for everybody applying RD

Hope this helps…

Thanks for the feedback from both of you.

I don’t think the school is need blind. The kid is full pay.

25% of the freshman class comes in ED. This kid is an RD app.

I know there are a gazillion factors. And, I appreciate that you’re both willing to weigh-in. Thanks.

hmmmm…I wouldn’t say a huge reach and without knowing other factors, I would say slight reach just based on the limited info provided…

Hope that helps!!
