I’ll be majoring in Finance with a concentration in Corporate Finance or Finance with a concentration in Risk Management Insurance. I’m not sure which track I am going to follow yet. I’ve always been interested in the risk field of the business industry. However, I also like the business aspect of traveling and networking and meeting new people. Regardless, I wanted to know how realistic it could be to land a job within a top sports league. (i.e. NBA, NFL etc.) I follow sports heavily and would love to land a job working for a top league even if it’s within the finance or business aspect of it. Although I know that most GM jobs and really any job within the sport is usually given to those who have played the sport professionally, I just want to know how realistic it would be to land a job with some experience and a Finance degree with a certain track.

Not realistic.

I would want nothing more than to have a job with the Yankees. But so would many many other people.

It is possible, but you will probably need connections.

Sports leagues are just like any other business… they have revenues, they have things they sell, they make a profit, etc…
You probably won’t make very much at the entry level, though.

to be honest, it is very hard but very possible.

the reason why its so hard is because everyone wants to work for a sports team. there are 1000s of people but only 100s of jobs (not specifically but you see my point)

like someone else said, you need connections. you need to know someone in the organization that can help you out.

sports would be a very rewarding thing to work in. a lot of perks could come with that. my dad has a friend who works for our local NHL team and he gets free season tickets.

working for sports teams is a classic example of who you know instead of what you know.
