How regulated is Haverford??

Im thinknig of applying to Haverford RD as it was recommended by my family and college counselor as a great northeastern school (I really wanna leave Texas) but in my readings it seems that haverford has a very regulated curriculum (mandatory phys ed and language and sciences etc)

It sounded a lot like high school curricula. Im looking for somewhere where you can build your own major.

Are a lot of the classes like science and language and phys ed easy to get out of or have classes which are just plain easy or basic? Also, how big r sports on haverford? I know of some liberal arts colleges where students have to play a sport even if it is intermural.

While i am expecting a wellrounded education at any good liberal arts college, i still want the ability to make a lot of individual curriculum choices.

Can anyone give me any info about this all??

hi, i am a freshman at haverford. i really think haverford is not regulated at all. yes, there are certain requirements but they are quite easy to fulfill.

the phys ed is not hard to do – you can do self-paced running, play an intramural sport, or do yoga, breakdancing, etc. and the classes for yoga etc are only about 2-3 times a week about an hour or so.

the language requirement is also not too bad- you can get out of it if you get over a 600 on a language SATII, a 4 or 5 on a language AP or you can just take a year of any language course at haverford or bryn mawr.

and if you are not really interested in science, you can fulfill your requirements by taking some courses that are designed for non science majors, such as chemistry of the everyday world, etc

i hope that answered your questions – basically, there are requirements but they are not too hard to fulfill. and you do have time to take courses you want to take.

haverford isn’t anymore regulated than any other liberal arts college. if you don’t want to deal with requirements then don’t seek a liberal arts education.

I just have a random question, nrahman: does Haverford offer any martial arts classes? I’ve never taken any and it’s one of the random things I want to do during college. :)

sorry for the late reply. i don’t think haverford offers martial arts classes. however, penn or swat or bryn mawr might and you could always take classes there.
