How Schools Notify Applicants

@skiergirl777 @Sue22 CollegeConfidential sometimes censors out links so stargirl’s ■■■■■■■ version is best: http://■■■■■■■.com/ccprepschoolnotification2014 This link is also available on Page 1 of this thread in case the link I provided is censored as well.

Thanks thelittleswimmer. I was cutting and pasting Stargirl’s link but for some reason it was self-censoring.

Hey guys, just a few questions. Does every school send u a package on M10 upon acceptance? If so, do they all use FedEx? Or is it just Andover? Do they use DHL? I called FedEx today and got nothing. Thanks

@Davis2298: The schools use various methods of notification. Did you read through this thread? And what was it you expected to learn by calling FedEx today??

Please – everyone, don’t harass the folks at FedEx, DHL, or even the postal service. Take a deep breath, sit tight and try to exhibit some of the qualities that the schools value… Like maturity, patience, perspective… I know the waiting is difficult, but hang in there, and you’ll have your answers soon. Good luck!

The “call Fedex” route, is, IMO, an extremely low watermark in the whole BS applications process.

I encourage everyone NOT to be “that guy”. And if you are going to be “that guy”, please don’t come on the forum acting like you got Wonka’s golden ticket.

…I’ve got a golden ticket. I’ve got a golden twinkle in my eye…Gee, thanks, @SevenDad‌ , now I will be singing that all day! No more show tunes, people. I’m feeling a little testy right now. And fer cryin’ out loud, kid, listen to the man and don’t call FedEx.

What I find fascinating about the entire call Fedex thing is that people think you can call 4 days ahead of time and that they will have something to tell you, if you do not get the whole thing that fedex means they send it overnight then you shouldn’t get into Andover in the first place. I am seriously considering sending an email to the entire Andover admissions staff linking to these call Fedex threads I am pretty sure that is not what they intended. And to @Davis2298 maybe spend 5 or 10 minutes actually READING the thread you are commenting in before asking questions. These kids have worked really hard to gather the data and support each other. They are happy to share with you but you could do 5 minutes of research yourself first. I’m with you @twinsmama I am starting to feel hostile

To all the anxious students on this forum: take a deep breath. You will find out your fate soon enough. Don’t start flooding fedex with phone calls, as this is a bit obnoxious. Here is how the tracking process works:

School X decides to send out acceptances via trackable mail. Admissions committee prints all the letters out into neat little folders and embellishes them with cute little hand written comments. This is probably already done by now. On the morning of March 9, the packages are sent out (Look at the spreadsheet for details on when this is done, as it varies by school). The tracking barcode on each packet is not ‘activated’ into the Fedex/USPS system until it is scanned by the receiving facility. Then a few hours later it will show up in the Fedex/USPS system as a package destined for your home.

SO although the letters are probably already written, there is no way you’ll know if something is headed your way or not until the AFTERNOON or EVENING of March 9. And this again applies to only a handful of schools that use such trackable mail systems (either Fedex or USPS priority mail). First class mail without delivery confirmation or tracking number will not be traceable.

Having said all this: is it really worth it? Don’t you want to wait until you are with your parents to find out the news (either good or bad)? They’ve gotten you this far, and probably should be involved in your joy or pain.

Best of luck on M10 to everyone.

Thanks @itsjustschool! I’m actually an expat and live here in US though! Sure there are others abroad who didn’t know though, so thanks!

@cameo43‌ @LifeLongNYer‌ hey take it easy folks I have read through the whole thread before commenting and there have been some mention about it being possible calling fedex (there have been people who called FedEx 7 days b4 M10) and I was just wondering if I should give it a try. No need for harsh comments take a chill pill

@Davis2298‌: You mad, bro? Last time I checked, not a single poster in posts 183-187 called FedEx today…3 days before, you know, the official notification time? So perhaps you are the one who should chill? Maybe? Probably?

The whole selective high school/college thing has been slowly (perhaps not so slowly) ratcheting up in terms of anxiety felt/created…and IMO, the “call Fedex” thing just feeds the machine. I will not back down on encouraging students and parents alike to stop feeding the machine.

BTW, both of my kids are in boarding school already…I’m just here trying to help.

When you all started this process of applying to school, it was made very clear that you would not know the results of that application until March 10 OR AFTER. Not all schools use FedEx. Not all schools use email. So - until March 10th has come AND GONE, I am sorry to tell you that you will not know your “fate”. This should not be a surprise.

I realize that everyone is excited and worried and anxious. That is part and parcel of applying to anything. You won’t know 'til you know. Relax. There is absolutely nothing that can be done at this point - you will either get in or you won’t. Either way, you will be fine. Happy or disappointed - but ultimately fine.

I have noticed a few posters on CC recently that have joined in the past 2 days and already have 80+ posts! Panic is not a helpful emotion. If you did all you could to make your application strong and completed all requirements in a timely manner, then you can do no more.

Go for a run. See a movie. Hang out with friends or family. Under no circumstances should you call FedEx, the school, or anyone else. The only thing you can do is wait. I am sorry to be the bearer of news which cannot be a surprise. There is no reason you need to know before everyone else knows. There is no prize for hearing first. Wait your turn. It is the way it works.

That said: good luck to you all!

@davis2298 it is great that you read this whole thread. Now, go read the pages and pages of other incredibly helpful threads here on CC in the Prep School Admissions forum. I guarantee that any question you might have has already been addressed in one of the threads. Hey, look on the bright side: if you spend your time between now and March 10th READING the threads, you will be extremely well-informed on everything prep school by the time you actually receive your decision(s). Telling other CC contributors (especially those who have given extremely helpful advice over a period of YEARS) is not the way to get the most from this forum.

I don’t see the point in calling FedEx.

What you should really do is call the school on Monday and speak to the admissions office. Tell them that you would like to know the tracking number for the package they may have sent you. Ask them to see whether or not they sent you a package. Maybe just cut to the chase and ask whether or not you will be informed that you were admitted, by receiving a package!

Really! FedEx can’t do anything without the tracking number!

Don’t try to be sneaky. If you have a question for the admissions department; ask them.

Again - I would advise against calling anyone. Especially the school. They have enough to do without having to give each candidate a tracking number. Wait. That is what you need to do. That is how it works.

CORRECTION to my post #192

I should have typed: “Telling other CC contributors **to chill/b is not the way to get the most from this forum.”

@london 203 … I have a feeling ItsJustSchool was being just a bit “tongue in cheek” :slight_smile:

@ItsJustSchool Some people in panic or whatever reason don’t get SARCASM so you might just have a created a flood of phone calls and/or personal visits to Admissions Office on Monday demanding tracking numbers! :(( >:) 8-}

I don’t know what happened to my attempt in using emoticons. sorry

@dreamcatcher3 I realized that after I re-read it! My apologies, @itsjustschool! – another reason I find CC frustrating. 15 minutes is not enough time to edit a post – I preferred when you got an hour… :slight_smile:
