How Schools Notify Applicants

Going back to the original topic of “How schools notify …,” I see that the majority of the schools use email or portals to notify applicants whereas there are few “Last Mohicans” schools that use ONLY postal mail.
Who are they? - Is SAS one of them?
What’s the reason? Nostalgia? support USPS?
Do you Like it? or Not like it?

Haha I had the same exact experience with the emoticons just now! I wonder what’s wrong with the evil emoji. @payn4ward >:)

@payn4ward‌, thanks for the heads-up. :slight_smile:

If they are bold (or stupid?) enough to defy the deadlines to which they agreed and insist on an advance read; this conversation should happen with the Admissions Office of the school they hope to attend. This will of course create an impression, and the beginning of a reputation.

But, to be clear, I agree that one should not contact anyone :-c about the notification unless one has still not heard one way or the other and it has been a few days. *-

Even if you do call FedEx, the probability of them telling you you DO have a package or DON’T have a package can be extremely inaccurate. No one should determine “their fates” from a call.

There was another thread I was reading recently from several years back where some posters were discussing their experiences calling FedEx. One poster mentioned how she called FedEx and heard that she had a package on the way, was very excited about it, then called FedEx again and a different person told her that she did NOT have a package on the way…

There’s no tracking number at all so calling FedEx is useless because they can’t accurately give you information–information that can either get your hopes up or crush them before receiving the actual decisions on M10. For the applicants that do end up calling FedEx…take what they say with a grain of salt.

I think everyone on here should just take a deep breath and calm down. There is basically nothing you can do now that will change your fate. Anxious kids (and parents!) should probably just stay off of CC until M10, or even M11. AOs have most likely already made their decisions. There is nothing you can do. Applications are in, chance threads are a waste of time now, and it’s much too early to be asking about dorms and such. There’s only a few days left… Hang in there.

@payn4ward I think SAS is snail mail.

Update on Blair Academy:

Email notifications will be sent on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, using the applicant communication email address listed on the admission application. Students will also receive an official notification via postal service.

Update on Milton - they are using Fedex 2nd Day for M10 delivery.

@Redsoxfan18 agh you may be the first posted result for the season. I am assuming you know this because you called FedEx and asked about a package for your daughter? Congrats!

I didn’t call FedEx. Over the years I’ve caught several UPS and FedEx express envelopes in my snowblower and had missed deliveries that I signed up for the UPS service that alerts you when they have a package for your address. (One year I missed the big xmas present for the kids). UPS has had this for years, FedEx added it more recently about a year ago I think. I’m was expecting a pair of cleats for my daughter for an outdoor soccer tournament - hard to believe we are playing outdoor soccer in MAINE right now, so I checked the tracking number when it showed up. Had no idea Milton even used FedEx so I was surprised when I checked the tracking email I received via text. I thought about not posting it at all but I knew from checking the sheet before that Milton was snail mail sent on M10 which means people would not find out for a few days so I updated it to show FedEx M10 delivery.

@redsoxfan18 I was not judging, no need to explain! I was just congratulating.

@LifeLongNYer‌ - thanks and sorry, didn’t mean to come across so defensively. I’m assuming it is good news but will hold off celebrating until my daughter has opened the package. Historically they used only snail mail so there is some chance Milton is using FedEx for all decisions, granted it would be a little odd to FedEx a rejection.

@redsoxfan I totally understand how you feel. We have had some pretty definitive positive feedback but I refuse to believe anything until I see it in writing. My husband thinks I am insane

Congratulations, @RedSoxFan18!!

@RedSoxFan18, you’ve just given this community another channel for its collective neurosis. I can hear the FedEx and UPS servers crashing from all the CC prep school applicants signing up for delivery notifications!

@wayoutwest18 It will forever be known in the history books as: “The Historical Server Crash of M10, 2015!”

Still I think it’s much much better than calling fedex… And I highly doubt the number of CC preppers can stage ddos attack.
Do NOT call fedex… if you have to… then ask mom to sign up for delivery notifications instead.

FWIW, both UPS and the USPS offer similar services where you can track packages without tracking numbers by simply setting up an account with your address. Not sure how helpful this will be for those looking to make themselves even more crazy, but it is helpful for managing deliveries in general.

So, do you have notification, Blackbeard??? Excited for you and beardlings!

Anyone get a call about a waitlist this morning? We did…
