How Schools ReportSATs?

This is a very interesting subject to me. I feel like a good benchmark for a school’s range is the percentage of students that score above a 700 on each section of the SAT.

For instance, according to Peterson’s Guide

This is for Rice

SAT verbal scores over 700 53%
SAT math scores over 700 65%
ACT scores over 30 85%

Collegeboard: 1330-1540

meanwhile, Northwestern

SAT verbal scores over 700 50%
SAT math scores over 700 63%
ACT scores over 30 71%

as you can see, Rice has 2 percent edge on math, and 3 percent edge on verbal

meanwhile, SAT range for Northwestern is 1320-1500 (25 point difference). How is that possible?

another case study

Cornell:

SAT verbal scores over 700 38%
SAT math scores over 700 59%
ACT scores over 30 56%

SAT range: 1280-1490

Vanderbilt:
SAT verbal scores over 700 34%
SAT math scores over 700 48%

SAT range: 1280-1460

I am just curious how these schools report their scores
