How Screwed Am I? (Past Poor Performance)

So, I’m about to get out of the Army and go back to community college, and I was going over my unofficial transcript from my last go round. It was worse than I thought. From 2005 to 2008, I have:

1 C, 7 Withdrawals, and 5 Fs; With a cumulative GPA of 0.5

I’m pretty confident that I’m going to do much better this time around, and I can petition to get the Fs forgiven and removed from my GPA (but they’ll still show up on the transcript as forgiven Fs.) I’m just wondering: How bad is this going to look when I start applying to transfer to universities? Will I be ok if my performance improves? (I’m trying for at least a 3.5 GPA for all my classes from here on out.)

I’m shooting to transfer to University of Illinois for computer science.

It really isn’t worth wondering about. All you can do moving forward is your best. And when you apply, tell your story. I do believe that the changes you make to improve your life will be viewed in a positive light. You have a good goal. Go for it. Even if you don’t make it into Illinois, you will be better for taking the shot.
