<p>Freshman year I went to a large private school that offered AP classes, and I took advanced geometry. Sophomore year I transferred to a very small private school that does not offer AP classes and the person who handles the student records didn’t bother to transfer the “advanced” part of geometry and instead just put down “geometry” in my record. I asked them about this and they didn’t even know what “advanced” geometry was! Are they supposed to transfer that onto my record? If they are, how should my grade transfer since I was taking an advanced class… if I got a B+ should it transfer as a B+ or higher?</p>
<p>Also, are the colleges going to be able to calculate my “weighted” gpa with the adv class just by seeing the advanced part in the name or is their supposed to be something else in the “system”? The person who handles the records has no idea what they are doing so I’m worried they are messing my record up. A few days ago they told me that my schools classes are equivalent to AP classes even though they aren’t AP classes. Should/can I just ask both schools to send separate transcripts from the different years to colleges?</p>
<p>When you apply to college, you will send your transcripts from both high schools. Each college will sort your grades out as it sees fit. Don’t worry about this.</p>
<p>Also, each high school determines for itself how to handle classes taken elsewhere. The name assigned to the transferred in course usually is the name of the most similar course that is offered at the new high school. Sometimes, however, no course name is listed at all, just “Math credit” or the like.</p>
<p>My kids all went to multiple high school and the only transcript sent was from the final school. Previous schools’ grades and courses were included on that transcript, with the exact same course name and grade. Even though the grading scales were different, the new high school school did not recalculate. So DD’s 93/B+ stayed a B+, even though a 93 was an A at the new school. </p>
<p>OP, you need to make sure that the new school records that geometry course as advanced, but I doubt they will adjust the grade at all. Luckily, since you transferred as a sophomore, it probably won’t make a huge difference since what will matter more is course rigor.</p>
<p>no, geometry is not AP. It may have been an “honors” course at your first school and weighted more than a standard course, but there is not a geometry AP course.</p>
