How significant is accumulative GPA?

Hi!

I am an undergrad planning to apply for grad school. I have an accumulative GPA of 3.6 and a major’s GPA of 3.67. I think that if I can’t take more electives I can take my accumulative GPA to 3.64. I would like to take 20 more credits of classes that I don’t need to graduate in order to do so. I would like to know if it is worth it or I should just leave my GPA at 3.6. My major’s GPA would stay the same in both situations.

You need to provide more detail. What is your major? What kind of graduate program are you interested in? Professional Masters, M.S. or Ph.D.? When do you plan to graduate?

Expected graduation: May next year
Research experience: two years of research experience in labs at my college (University of Idaho).
Major: Molecular biology and Biotechnology
Minor: Computer science
Program: Still trying to decide between a PhD or a Master in biotechnology.

If you get declined or admitted it’s not going to be because of a 0.04 difference in GPA.

Absolutely right, that won’t be the decising factor. As i said in my reply to your more complete post. Graduate admission is all about fit.

Thank you very much for your responses!! I wanted to have a second opinion and your’s were helpful!
