^^Be careful with that longer middle toe. I suppose you are aware of Morton’s foot…
I adore well-designed heels that do not shift the center of gravity. It involves both physics and art to make a shoe that really rocks. That’s why Tributes and Rockstud classic three-strap slingbacks are still coveted by fashionistas - those shoes look cool and they are walkable. I am taking my Tributes (a RealReal find for a fraction of the retail!) with me on every vacation.
The Rockstud and Tribute shoes I saw online don’t have arch supports. I need good arch supports in any shoe I’m going to wear, especially if I’m paying lots of $$$$ for the footwear.
HIMom, an arch support gel sticky can customize any shoe (not all folks wearing the same size shoe will need arch support in the same spot on the insole - I find some shoes with arch support wildly uncomfortable for my feet because it is in the wrong spot). That said, those shoes are not meant for daily wear nor are they meant for folks who need orthotics. They are meant for night out/dancing at a party which in most folks’ lives happens only once in a while.
I’m with you @jym626 . Holy moly! And I’m not buying shoes at any price that I’d then have to customize in order to wear them comfortably. But then, I am not the customer these makers are selling to, so it doesn’t really matter.
I’ve never had luck with the sticky gel supports. They move around and are too much or too little. I’m sure I’m not who they make any of these shoes for.
dragonmom, if you like flipflops, check Oofos. I am not able to wear any flipflops except Oofos. Best flipflops hands down, except some on this thread will have an issue with a $45 price tag for a pair of shower shoes.
I am amazed at the number of people who can wear high heels. I’m not quite 5’3" and have always found anything over 2.5 in painful. I wished I could have worn high heels, especially when younger. I do think they look so elegant! I wear a size 7…I also am not sure I’d still be able to even wear a 2.5" heel–bet I’m down to 2". 99% of the time I’m in flats or something like a boot or sandal with a heel that’s no more than 1".
My heels are never more than an inch or 1and 1/2 inches.
More interestingly, my 28 yr old beautiful highly successful D1 will not wear heels. Has to do with her very, very strong feminist beliefs. She says heels, that are uncomfortable, bad for the back and potentially dangerous are not needed for a woman to be beautiful, sexy or professional.
I hope she is also against ballet flats because they are even worse for the feet than heels, because most people mistakenly think that flat = good. Nope. Podiatrists disagree.
I don’t want to cause this thread to digress too much, but being a feminist to me means that I wear what I want, not what someone else has dictated is “feminist” or “feminine”.
The only potential danger with my heels is if I stab you with them in the foot for not getting out of my way when I tell you to.
I do not think my D1 would judge other women of their choices. . In fact I know she would not. I just know that she, as a woman, has chosen to not partake of the unhealthy decision to wear heels.
I think people get all dramatic, as if wearing heels occasionally to go to dinner and walk from a car to a restaurant and back is going to cause you to be crippled permanently. I wore heels in the days of business dress and while I only wear them now for special occasions a few times a year, my feet are perfectly fine.
I’m 5’ 2", wear a 7.5 wide shoe (which actually makes me feel self-conscious for having feet too big for my height), and can’t bear wearing a heel above 1 1/2" for more than a very, very short amount of time before my toes start screaming in pain. (Anything that’s narrow in the toe area, of course, makes it even worse.) It just isn’t worth it. Besides, I remember very well from childhood what my mother’s toes looked like after a couple of decades of wearing high heels. I’ve never wanted that. So I stick to 1 1/2" at most, and outside of a business setting, I rarely wear heels at all. (On the other hand, I find completely flat shoes like ballet flats to be equally uncomfortable if I’m going to be doing any walking.)
My MIL is a retired nurse and has never worn heels-she’s always worn white sneakers (although now that she’s retired she won’t go near white sneakers, lol, but still wears sneakers). She has the WORST feet-hammer toes, surgery, fallen arches, plantar fasciitis, the works. She’s not overweight, and has never been overweight, and she say her feet have always given her trouble.
I think to a certain extent your feet are your feet, and they’re not as affected by shoes as we may think they are.
S all male high school had a ‘walk a mile in her shoes’ event every year. Aside from the difficulty of finding heels in some of those sizes, it was a great event to watch. It certainly pointed out the silliness of placing most of your weight on the balls of your feet while balancing your heel on a toothpick several inches above the ground.
Personally - I have a couple of pairs of CFM (come ‘for’ me) shoes. They stay on my feet as long as the lingerie does :).
As for street wear…it’s up to 1.5 inches heels…attached to Frye boots. For dresses and such it’s cute candles and in case of a REALLY big event…a pair of 1-1.5 inch kitten heels.
