How to account for lack of working due to illness on resume

I wrote of my son’s troubles finding a job on a past thread,
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1981568-job-finding-tips-for-recent-grad-p1.html,
and it turns out to have been a good thing he was unemployed and living at home. His lifelong illness that was discovered during college is more severe than we thought. He has been incapacitated since late May, and probably won’t recover enough to work until October or so.

He hopes to start job hunting by late August, and will need to update his resume.
Any ideas about how to document 6 months of non-work due to extreme illness?

I think you just leave the time blank on the resume and when asked tell the truth, that you were ill, but fully recovered now. Lots of kids this age have gaps just because it’s so difficult to find good jobs.

@mathmom, Thanks.
