How to acknowledge an outstanding Admissions person?

My son dealt with an admissions person at the school he recently sent his deposit to that was truly outstanding. Both my son and I really appreciated his getting to know my son, his no-pressure but consistently helpful approach, and his just going that extra step.

Do you think it would be appropriate for me to write a little note to someone (who?) just pointing out this employee? I always like to give a little recognition for those who go the extra mile, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t be appropriate to write a note to the director of admission for something like this. It should be easy to see you really mean the compliment (I always worry something could be taken the wrong way) and given the amount of grief these guys probably get, a little pat on the back can only be a good thing. For that matter, if he’s that good, his boss deserves to know.

How thoughtful Peacenik! We had one school Puget Sound where the rep was amazing. My D wrote him a personal note rather then just send in a card to say no. I didn’t think of writinf something to get into his employee folder. Who would you write it to?

I absolutely would encourage you to write a note and copy it to the director of admissions or the person’s immediate supervisor. I e-mailed one of D’s teachers yesterday to let her know how much I appreciate her as a teacher and how she goes above and beyond the call of duty. I copied it to the principal and he wrote back to say how nice the letter was and he would place it in her personnel file. I figure that schools hear enough complaints from parents, but wonder how often they actually hear about the good things? The teacher wrote me back today and the letter nearly brought me to tears. What a wonderful woman.

Definitely make sure you send the good word along to the Director of Admissions. If it’s a small school, tell the President’s Office, too.
