To me that sounds like a strategy that would waste a lot of time unless you’re really not very proficient at algebra.
2x=4. Are you going to plug in all of the answers to see what one works? Many students run into time constraints on the SAT.
Yes, it’s a strategy, but only one I would suggest when you can’t solve a problem and plugging is relatively straight forward.
