I am contemplating changing my June SAT date to Oct. and writing it then. That would be my second time taking it. I am thinking about doing this because I don’t know if non-score choice top schools will think I’m a score freak/would frown on retakes (visit my other thread on this page about whether I should change my date or just write in June + OCt. for a total of 3 tests to help me make a decision).

But, if I do choose to just write in Oct. and not June, then Oct. would be IT. Oct. SAT would be the biggest test ever because retakes wouldn’t be possible (because I would avoid writing 3 times).

Currently I’m at a 2090. I made 3 errors in W and 10e for a 710, but next time, if it’s Oct., I’m hoping for >10 essay and -1 or -2 or -0 MC. I would think 770+ is really possible.
Math, I got 710 (2error, 2 omit). I thought I only omitted 1, but I was really tentative on the test and writing the test to ‘avoid making mistakes’ instead of just attacking the M. So, next time I’m going for -1 at most. (770+).
For CR…i got 670, so it will be a challenge, but I would like mid 700s.

So, basically, I wrote the above to show you that I have lots of work to do to get my score up. I think 2300+ is possible, but the major concern is I DON’T WANT TO CHOKE!

I also got a 710in Math and 670in CR with a 700in Writing for the MAY SAT. I will be studying over the summer and do my final retake in October. Anyways I dont have any advice just wanted to mention how close our scores were .

Do LOTS of practice. The more practice you do, the more confident you’ll feel on test day. Let’s face it–you’ll do worse on the real SAT than during a practice exam. If you can score 2300+ (hopefully 2400) with limited time (i.e. take off 5 minutes per section), you will have no problem scoring 2300+ on test day.

You won’t be at your best on test day. You may feel like you failed. All the practice makes you good enough that your “failure” is still good enough for 2300+.

EDIT: I just want to make clear that you will choke on test day, without a doubt. The practice just makes it so that you can still achieve 2300+ even if you seriously choke.

^hmm, ok. I heard many people say that they did better on test day, but I actually did worse in May (used to score mid 2100s and close to 2200 but I only scored 2090).

So, like a practice test a day kind of pace during the summer is good then? What else can I do to not completely choke?

^I actually did much better on test day than before. I didn’t prep for the exam per se, but last summer I took the 07 practice test and got like a 1940. Jan. (without any prep): 2070. May: 2140. Hadn’t studied a thing for those. Now I did and for June I’m hoping I can, like the OP, get to a 2300+. My main problem is CR, though if it comes like January’s, I think I’ll get above 750 (so I’m hoping it comes like Jan, obviously - ridiculously easy :D)

To the OP: I’m not sure I can help you. Usually, when I sit down for the test, I’m a bit nervous at the beginning while I’m waiting in my seat. Then, when they hand out the booklets and start doling out the instructions for writing our names (you’d be surprised how long that takes) I calm down, and when the essay section begins, I’ve tuned out all anxiety from my mind. As hard as it may be to believe, I actually enjoy taking the SAT. Seriously. I like testing my skills, and math and English are my favorite “science” and language
After that, it’s just a smooth ride and a matter of not making some ■■■■■■■■ mistakes by misreading the question 3 times over. In both Math AND CR, as I’ve come to notice. For example, in not one, but TWO practice tests, I read the following question: “Compared to passage 1, the tone of passage 2 is more:” as: “Compared to passage 2, the tone of passage 1 is more:”
Naturally, the actual answer was insanely easy, and I got it wrong because I misread. Ugh.

Some people tend to perform better under pressure (like me–I seem to feed off of adrenaline or whatever hormone is being produced). But, I know more people that underperform under pressure than people that do better.

I would say to space your tests evenly throughout the summer, and leave the CB tests (in the BB) towards the end (if you have other tests from PR, Kaplan, etc.).

I’m in the same boat. On my last two practice tests from BB I’ve gotten scores of 750 and 770 respectively for CR; I would love to get either of these scores. But I know on test day I’ll blow it and get like a 670.

Try taking the tests with 5 minutes fewer per section and get your scores back up to the 750-770 range. If you can do that, you’re in prime position to score 750-770 on the real SAT.

Yeah, same here.

I’m doing pretty good in CR, the only questions I’m missing are vocab questions. Of the the two or three practice CR questions I’ve taken, I’ve only missed like 2-3 from the passage that weren’t vocab related. And DH should come in the mail tomorrow or Thursday, so that should cut down on some of my vocab problems.

Need to cut down on stupid, stupid, math errors as well.

lol I also choked this May, I rlly dont know y, but My scores were very close to yours 2070, I’m retaking this June though since I have to take Math 2 in October. Remember you have score choice so dont worry about retakes, most top schools accept score choice.
I plan, if I have to, to take my final final SAT November for ED and maybe December for a few RD schools incase I get deferred rejected ED.

^yea, but some don’t use score choice. I don’t want to have my chances shot because of 3 SATs instead of 2.

I have yet to take subject tests too, so I think EA is a possibility, but I have no room for choking on any tests because I could take the Sept. ACT, and my 2 SAT IIs in Nov. and apply EA…no room for messing up though

Hmm I did a practice test with 5 min less per section and scored a 2380. With normal time constraints, I got 2 2400’s on the previous two tests I took. I hope to god that I do as well.
