how to be busy AND have a lot of friends?

I’m really busy nowadays. I got a lot to worry about like scholarships, GPA, grad school, etc. I play Ultimate Frisbee with my college team, and that’s basically my only friendship circle. I do have a couple of buddies in my classes, but they aren’t the type of buddies I hang out with. I don’t really have the time to join more clubs and meet more people. Furthermore, I live at home due to financial reasons.

I feel like I need to make more friends and be happier, which will also help me maintain my motivation to do well in class. I know plenty of people who demonstrate that you can be really busy and still have a lifetime experience in college. For me though, it seems like you can’t have one without sacrificing the other.

unfortunately, i don’t actually have anything helpful to say, other than that i can empathize. my problem is more that i have individual friends from a variety of places, and i simply do not have time to see them as much as i’d like. for me, who i feel close with has a lot to do with how much time i spend with them, so this is a problem; it sometimes leads to me not feeling particularly close to anyone.

when it comes down to it, we both need to make a choice about what is more important or what makes us happier. right now, i don’t want to sacrifice the extra things i do to work on developing these relationships or starting new ones. it’s the end of the year, so what seems best for me now is reevaluating my time commitments next year, and keeping in touch with friends over the summer. some people may have the wonderful ability to balance both perfectly, but the rest of us have to figure out which one will make us happier. good luck!

you need to decide. You definitely CAN join more clubs and meet more people. The question is if it is worth it, for you personally, to take that time away from something you already do and use it to do something new.
