<p>A stock analyst and a financial analyst both major in economics or finance, but are not the same careers. To tell you all you need to know would take more than a single posting on here, so let me suggest you get a copy of one of the Vault.com books on investment banking or financial analysts that they sell–or that you go to the US Bureau of the Census and read their overview on what investment bankers (stock analysts) and financial analysts do.</p>
