I know not all departments take on undergrad TAs, but for the ones that do (I think Chemistry, Econ, PubPol), how do you go about becoming one? Does the professor usually invite the top scorers of the class? Or, if you did well, should you take the initiative to email the professor? How many classes above the one you want to TA in do you need to take? (i.e. if you want to be say an econ 55 TA, do you need to have completed econ 105?). Also, about what is the pay range?

As for others, besides chemistry I’ve only TAed for BME and EGR and in those cases either the prof solicited top students from previous classes or the departmental secretaries sent out an email asking for applicants.
