How to Chance?

What’s the terminology here?
I mean, I get safety=fall-back and reach=stretch, but what’s the exact terms/levels etc.?
Thanks, and I apologize for my obvious ignorance.

I’ve never had anything to do with chances, but I believe I might have this halfway correct.

A safety is a school that you can definitely get into (as in your stats and every exceed the norm for that place). For many people here, this would be a state school.

A reach is one that you are trying hard to get into and you maybe might not get into. For people here, this might be an ivy.

You might look at this and this for some information.

But as you know, the levels of schools will depend based on each person beacuse we all don’t have the same scores, stats, and ECs.

there’s no exact definition, but basically what you said. You can’t get more specific than that.

So what’s low reach vs. high reach?
I’ve heard some people use “high reach” as if it means “very low chance” but then others use it as “very high chance.”

high reach = low chance
and vice versa, imo.

Very high chance=safety
Lower chance=reach (maybe a high reach is one that is even harder to get (think like you are reaching for something on a high shelf and you are short, the higher it gets (high reach), the harder it is to get) than a low reach). I don’t think I’ve never really heard of someone using a high and low reach.
