how to change social circles

(wow, never thought i’d be going on this forum for anything but college acceptance advice. you think you’re done, but cc has a way of pulling you back in. unbelievable.)

ok, so i’m a freshman in college. classes are fine- harder than i thought, but manageable (if i wanted to manage more efficiently…but thats a different story entirely). the biggest problem i have right now is finding the right click. to preface this: it’s only been 2 weeks of school. before you say anything, i know it’s still early. i know that there’s still a lot of time to make friends. classes started at the beginning of last week. believe me, i know. the past few weeks when other people posted similar threads, i couldn’t help but laugh. but this is kinda different.

people have already cliqued into their own little social circles already. i even have my own. 2 other guys: 1 guy thats pretty cool but doesn’t like to party, and another guy that’s always willing to hang out w/ me, have a meal, play bball, whatever. the thing is, i dont think they’re the right friends for me. the first guy is cool and i love hanging out with him. its just that i wanna get crazy once in a while and i dont think he’d be up for it. as for the other guy, idk. i think that i’m only hanging out with him as more as a result of circumstances than anything else (we both didn’t have our circle at the time and just started hanging out). there’s nothing explicitly wrong w/ the 2nd guy. it’s just that when i’m with him, i kind of don’t want to be with him. i dont know how to explain it, i just don’t feel like we click as friends.

so, cc nation, i guess the question is, how do i go about finding a new social circle. i guess it should be taken into consideration that i go to a small school (4000 kids, 1000 freshman). i want to talk to some of the people in my classes, but they seem pretty distant from me. as for clubs, they haven’t started. im doing an intramural (w/ my 2 friends on my team no less). this all seems pretty difficult because it seems everybody else has cliqued off.

gimme the good stuff guys. anything you say will be helpful (to a certain extent. you know who you are…)

Well does your dorm do any events? I think that helps. Just today my dorm had a “meet & greet” and I met some cool girls. What made it great is that their room is hard to find; it doesn’t follow the basic layout of my dorm. lol it was so much fun and they said if I find it I get candy. ha ha. So I ended up staying in their room for a few hours and I see myself becoming good friends with them. And I’ve only really known them for a few hours now. They were completely outside my social circle. I actually have a couple of circles because I just try to find other people in my dorm outside my roommate and suite mates. So look for dorm events cause you can literally go to that person’s room without it being an inconvenience. lol
