How to Choose Grad Schools?

Hi! I’m currently a junior at University of Denver, majoring in Studio Art, minoring in English and Theatre. I’d like to go to grad school, either for scene design or for musical theatre writing. I’m more focused on the first one, but there are one or two writing programs I’d like to apply for as well. (Just some background info, in case it’s needed.)

What I’m having trouble with, is choosing the schools based on whether they are “safety” or “reach.” I’ve been told that I should still choose two “safety,” two “reach,” and two “strong possibility” schools. How do I know if a grad school/program I am looking at is a “safety” school and so on?

Average GRE, GPA, and experience. It’s really hard to get any info out of the schools but there are ranks for each program online too.

Ditto to what the person above has stated. Also, consider talking to your academic advisor or career servicea about how all those factors will play into your applications.

Totally unrelated, but how did you like University of Denver? I have been accepted there for Art Management and am still trying to make a decision.

Look at their past graduates and see where they ended up.

SamIamIam- I love DU! The campus is beautiful, and there are tons of great clubs and ways to get involved. I also love that it’s on the quarter system.

I’ll look more into find out about GPA and GRE and everything. Thank you!!
