while applying to one of the colleges, D used a fee waiver code they sent and that code did not work.
we never asked college to waive the fee and parent paid the application fee.
recently D received an email from an undergrad admissions that fee will be waived.
The undergrad admissions also mentioned in that email about D’s essay and what was memorable about it.
The admissions decision is still not known.
D still has to reply back. generally D replies thank you.
But since her essay was acknowledged, feels like she should write something about that.
please advice how detailed or simple should the reply email be?
I think she should also thank them for considering her admission to the college as well. They are taking time to review her application and it’s appropriate to thank them for their time.
Thank you for the fee waiver. I’m excited about (name of school) & look forward to/anxiously await the Admission Committee’s decision. Thank you again for your time and consideration. Sincerely, ___
To keep it simple, but it can be more than thank-you for the fee waiver. I would:
Thank them for the fee waiver
Acknowledge the fact they thought her essay was memorable (a sentence or two about what it means to her, not a paragraph)
If this is her top choice, she could take the opportunity to let them know (this may push them to a positive decision). If not, then just tell them she is looking forward to the AC’s decision.
The AC took the time to send her a personal email, it is a great opportunity to make herself be noticed more.
Simple doesn’t mean so generic that she seems disinterested. “Oh, a letter from admissions. Next!” They’re interested in her and showing some love. Send some back.
Thank you so much for following up on the application waiver. I am still very excited about the possibility of attending Whatsamatta U and am delighted you found my essay memorable.
