How to contact a college officer regarding course plan?

Well, thanks for returning the favor and also apologizing. -_-

The real value of this thread is, if UMCP students are anything like their parents, I sure as hell don’t want to go UMCP.

I don’t care that I said hell.

I based this off of anecdotal evidence (i.e my experiences). I myself am dying to see you spell correctly for a change, and maybe once in a while use proper punctuation, but I’m not getting that, am I?

By the way, this isn’t about the responses to the original question, but rather YOUR rude responses in general.

Euro,

Please stop for a second. Deep breaths.

Your feathers are in a ruffle because nobody here is agreeing/supporting your plan. You are lashing out in anger. Please show me one poster that is supporting you. I hate to say it, but you are so adamant in your own position that you refuse to accept anything else. Your position is why I have become antagonistic. You don’t want to hear/read anything unless the poster is supporting you.

It is not happening!

Nobody is trying to hurt you, they are trying to assist you. People are saying this is not a good idea, yet you fight them.

You have insulted Gina by telling her she is wrong regarding UMDCP core courses. Ironical since she is a UMDCP student and you are not.

You have insulted me because I offended you showing that your language can be offensive in a social aspect. HINT: You have the ability to get a BK, are you going to say JC in your interview? If not, than show the same respect here.

You have shown your own immaturity with the hell comment, instead of stepping up like an adult, you throw the gauntlet down and say deal with it. Did your parents raise you to not show respect to adults, even when you disagree?

As I keep saying, you will get into UMDCP, and hopefully you will find a niche to make you happy. I just think your view about college will hurt you in the long run. I don’t know anyone who is successful in the corporate world that says “If I only took that college class!” I do know a lot in that world who state, " My favorite college memory was when we beat XYZ university!" Slow down and enjoy life!

Call it silly. or stupid, but college is more than books. College is social too, and that plays over into the corporate world. If it didn’t, the term “networking” would not exist.

The real world competitive candidate is able to blend academic success in a social environment.

FWIW, I don’t believe that UMDCP is your no 1 choice, I think you are going down this route for a safety reason.

I’m absolutely fine with this opinion! I have no problem with that - will I consider it? Sure, I will. Will that be the sole base of my schedule decision? Of course not! Rather, it is YOUR temper/cockiness that is getting to me.

Am I guilty of cockiness/temper? I sure am. And I already apologized for that, and still apologize if I come off that way. Did you? Well… no. You get very flustered and angry when somebody DARES to mess with your religion. But you can bring Jews into anything YOU damn want, can’t you?

And I didn’t insult anybody. The fact, is, high school student or not, I have presented a UMCP site ( http://www.tce.umd.edu/apchart.html</a> ) that shows what credits I get for my AP classes. So I know for a fact that I am getting more credits. Even if gina was the president of the United States, it wouldn’t make much of a difference.

As for no college official willing to help me out, well, heck, I never argued that.

You just said you have two CORE classes left, and I estimated that you have 20 credits completed. So if you have 2 3 credit classes left of thirty you have 24 credits…I’m sorry my two minute math didn’t live up to his majesties standards.
If your arrogance is this apparent in real life, UMD doesn’t want you either.

Euroazn-- to answer your original question, I agree with the others that there is no single college “officer” (or more likely, advisor) who will answer your question. For D1, who is double majoring in Physics and Astronomy, which are in the same college, the advisors really just focus on their own department. And, as others have said, the weight is really on your shoulders to make your 4-yr plan. Since you’ve looked up what is required for your 3 intended majors, you’re on the right track. Yes, I do think it is possible for you to graduate with 3 majors (or more likely double degrees plus one) in 4 years if you’re bringing in that many credits. (my 2 kids had 35ish and 50ish AP credits when they started at UMD) D will have a double degree plus a minor; she could have had 3 “majors” if she had decided to take classes instead of doing on-campus research, doing research at NASA, or been a TA for 2 semesters.

However, what others have tried to tell you in various ways is that you cannot assume that you’ll be able to cleanly able to set up the schedule you need as easily as it looks on paper. Between my 2 D’s at UMD, they’ve registered for 10 separate semesters at UMD, and even they both register earlier in their peers because of the # of APs they brought in, neither has ever gotten their first choice as far as classes go. I’m not talking about preferred hours to take the classes, either. As a jr and sr., D1 has found that she has had to choose between a certain Physics class vs. a certain Astronomy class because they are both held at exactly the same time.

And finally, whether you intend to or not, on nearly every UMD-related post you have had, you do “sound” very arrogant in your posts. It seems pretty clear that since you consider yourself so much ahead of the game, and that everything will go according to plan, I suspect being at UMD would simply frustrate you. I think you would be bored having to lower yourself to attend the same classes as the other “average” Terps…I wish you good luck in your future endeavors, whether they be in Philadelphia, NYC, or College Park. I do also assume that as time and experiences come and go, your maturity level will at some time get to the level of your intelligence.

I would ask, however, that if you do post something on the UMD site where you are asking a “question” that you be willing to listen to the “answers” that others give you. This has been a very supportive thread, at least for the last 4 years, and continues to be. Don’t ask the question if you have to challenge nearly everything that anyone else says.

Euro, Euro, Euro. I tried to drop the hint way back in post #9 that you were sounding really insufferable.

This is a point I was trying to drive home to Euro. Triple majoring is optimistic, but if they want to be truly competitive when it comes to finding a job, they would spend their time branching out.

Response :"I’m not doing this for job recruitment! Besides, I’m planning to do an MFE (not an MBA) - which is usually done right after undergrad.** I am doing this for my own personal fun,** and also a little bit for the MFE, which requires a technical background

FWIW our DS is also a dual major with a core minor.

I also stated the same thing about classes, but to no avail. Come end of October our DS will be calling me daily in frustration because his UMD registration date is not up yet, but he is watching the available seats tick away. When he got his internship on the Hill for a Senator, it was the worst because they needed to know his available days before he was able to register. Yes, Euro…like I said Scholars MUST intern for their citation.

Euro, you are being ragged on right now, and I hope that you accept the criticism. If you do not, the fact is I feel bad for you, because the UMDCP community on this forum is very tight, and you will personally lose by walking away.

@ginab, Oh sorry, I guess I just misread your post! I interpreted it as I have 24 credits of CORE classes that I still needed to take…
And guys I still don’t get how I sound arrogant when I have freely admitted that my GPA is on the low end of things. I say that I shouldn’t drop below an X gpa my freshman year because I have had plently of friends and relatives go to CP…

BtwI have alloted time for stuff like the student run fund, so if i don’t make that, I’ll do an internship.

.

Please take this in kindness, you sound arrogant with posts like I carry a harder course load in HS than at UMDCP[post 3), or “honestly I’d be surprised if I got less than a 3.5 gpa” (your post 17) or I am doing this for fun, and not employment.(post 17) ***Think about it, " I don’t care about getting a job" is what you just insinuated when many posters here are figuring out ways how to pay in these economic times. Review your posts, and if you can’t see the arrogance, there is nobody here that can help you comprehend it :(

Clarification…is this what you consider to be your “social” aspect of college? Not trying to be antagonistic, just trying to get a grasp of your view regarding “social”. I also ask because you seem to have student run fund combined with internship, which makes me question if you are considering this to be your “internship”.

A) It’s not that I don’t care about getting a job, it’s that I can prepare for an MFE with that curriculum and enjoy myself.
B) I prefer a summer internship to be frank, but I do consider the fund a capstone like experience.
C) Social wise, I prefer to just hang out; watching a movie, going or a night out of town, etc. Although I am kind of a geek, so something that is not social (i.e student fund) can still be loads of fun.

And not to re-incite the debate xD looks like someone basically did this already: [Ermin Wei](http://advancement.umd.edu/celebration/showStudent.php?main_id=2651)
The only difference is computer science -> computer engineering. She also pulled off honors… triple degree + honors… impressive * whistles *

You must be popular in your school.

As must you, as a CC user -_-
And woah, Thanksgiving already?

I am serious. Did you take the AP class in public speaking? I can tell you got a 5.

Besides the fact that there is no such AP, and besides the fact that one can’t speak online, don’t you have anything better to do?

On a serious note, have you read Randy Pausch’s book Last Lecture? He was a CS teacher at CMU. You need to read chapter 24.
