Hi, I had surgery about five months ago and received a cadaver from a donor. I received a letter in the mail asking me to write back to the donor family and thank them. I unfortunately did not and kind of regret it. Does anyone know how I can get their information back so I can write that letter? It’s been a real bother. I am volunteering at the hospital that I had the surgery. Should I try medical records? Also, if this happened to anyone, some advice would be nice!

A cadaver is a dead body. Did you receive a whole body? I think you should understand more before you write, or you could really upset the family.

By cadaver I ment the body part that was harvested from the donor. -_- as it’s commonly referred to as…

The correct term to use would be an organ donation.

Who sent you that first letter? Contact THAT person or agency. They should be willing to provide you with the info again.

Or ask your doctor’s office. Maybe they know how you can get the contact info you need.

Someone with some good information, thank you. Ill ask around the surgical staff and medical record to find out who handles that kind of stuff and hope they have it on record as a hospital should.

Some families don’t want to know so it’s very important to do this through channels. The easiest way would be to talk to someone who administers the surgical department. That person may refer you to the right HR person or whomever handles stuff like this.

I have met several people who have sent heartfelt letters of thanks to the families of the organ donors. Some establish close friendships. I agree that the hospital who performed the transplant and the team would know whom to contact to get any donor info that is available. Congrats and good luck!
