I screwed up bad on a assignment this year, due to special circumstances at the time, and currently that is bringing down my grade in Physics a lot. I’ve been planning to ask my physics teacher if there is ANYTHING (whether from doing a research project to whatever) that i could do to get a few portions of extra credit, however small. How do you fellow CC’ers propose I approach him with this request? He told the class informally that “Your grade is completely deserved. You get what you get. I ruin your grade now so you will learn next time.”

Any suggestions? Please? I’m in reallllyyyyy desperate need here…

What if you try pitching it slightly differently? Instead of saying “I was really worried about my grade after [assignment], and I was wondering if there was anything I could do for extra credit”, try picking a topic of special interest to you and saying “I’m really interested in [quantum electrodynamics, or whatever] and I was wondering if I could do an independent project about it for some extra credit.” Play up the independent project part, and play down the extra credit part…

For English: Write a 3,000 word paper for the Scholastic Writing Awards, ask your teacher to correct it. S/he’ll probably offer you extra credit.

if you are a girl, start crying. Childish, but effective. I’m a crier by nature (and have done so in front of 3 ultrastrict teachers), but a girl I know cries all the time to get extra credit, etc.

^ Thanks for the ideas everyone, I’m also planning to ask him for my college recommendation next year probally since he’s one of my nicest teachers (while being strict at the same time…funny paradox) so I want to keep a good impression with him. I’ll think over it some more of exactly what to say and then ask him on tuesday :)
