My S has rented a number of hotel rooms all over the world–including Florida. He has also rented a car in Florida as an 18 year old.

It is, in fact, quite possible.

Oh yes, Cheers, it is possible to rent a car or a hotel room at 18 relatively easily (although the car can be incredibly expensive). 17, OTOH, is quite difficult. (My son solved that problem by growing out his mustache and using his college id for identification, instead of his driver’s license. And yes, he was asked if he was 18; he didn’t lie. He said “I’m a sophomore at MIT, what do you think?” and the clerk accepted that.)

When my D and her friend did a road trip recently through WA, OR, and CA, most places asked for proof they were at least 18.

He rented hotel rooms when he was 17 too. Not in Florida, LOL.

Car wasn’t that expensive. He has an international driver’s license.

The shocker for me was the Valentine’s date when he took his gf out for a fancy dinner and told the waiter he couldn’t order wine because he wasn’t 21. The waiter told him to take out a card from his wallet and flash it and he would bring him a bottle of wine.

It all depends on the waiter and the clerk.

Can’t you find an 18+ year old girl to go along on your trip? Even so, there are still challenges with an all-female trip like this. There are kooks who will simply try to take advantage of a group of females traveling alone. Some hotel/motel chains will not allow a minor to rent a room, even with a credit card.
