How to convince rm to use headphones?

It gets so irritating when she plays her music it all the time, very high volume, with crappy laptop quality. I know it seems like a small thing esp compared to all the rm horror stories I hear. But it’s really starting to get on my nerves, it’s literally driving me crazy hearing her crackly music all the time. ALL THE TIME. ALL THE FRIGGING TIME. Especially today, I was trying to finish an online test, for class, and I could not concentrate at ALL all I could hear was her music and I’d keep forgetting what I was writing, or thinking, for that matter. and this was a really important test to me, and I kept getting screwed over, I’d think of a good sentence and start writing and then I’d forget what I was thinking in the middle b/c of her goddamned music, then I’d have to start over, but I’d forget the new sentence too, rinse and repeat.

I’ve tried to talk to her several times (as often as politeness allows), being as respectful as I could be. if I ask her to turn it down a bit, she gets all defensive about it. I’ve subtly asked her if she brought headphones. She says she did but doesnt like using them cuz they ‘feel funny’. Every time I ask her about the music she gets unmistakably ruder and ruder. When I tell her I have tests/work to do, she turns it to low volume for about 10 minutes then turns it right back up.

I ALWAYS wear headphones when doing anything with sound, is it too much to ask that she return the kindness and wear headphones sometimes, too? all my other roommates use headphones by default.
I can’t move to another room b/c her musics loud enough that I can hear it wherever I am in the apartment (it is an apartment style dorm) and I get home late from class so I can’t escape to the library or whatever. And it doesnt make sense to sit outside in the dark freezing to death on the dewy concrete just because she wont turn down her music!!

I have always tried to be very polite to her, whenever she complained of something I’d try to fix it asap, and following the golden rule best as I could, asked permission for the smallest things (like washing dishes while shes watching tv… etc) she acts like its natural to receive this kind of attention/respect but not give back any. back at HS I only had a small tight circle of friends so maybe my social standard is off??? is it really that unreasonable to ask her to use headphones?? what am I doing wrong??? should I give up and pour glue in my ears???

ps my RA is no help, shes a big frigging bumble. but that’s another story…

Get her Dre Beats, haven’t unplugged my headphones in like a year.
