I want to pursue a career in journalism and I know I Cornell has a great communications school. As a high schooler what can I do to show colleges my passion in journalism? P.S. I am already a part of my school newspaper and literary magazine.
You can also seek internships over the summer or maybe create a column for a community newspaper.
As a former HS newspaper editor and Comm major, I’d say that what you currently have is probably fine - just stick with them and be sure to submit some of your best articles as part of a supplement when you apply!
I also did an NYU summer journalism program but realize that’s not accessible to everyone. To echo what the post above said, if you can get involved in a local publication (whether getting an article published or volunteering) that could add a bit of extra edge.
