How to do well on ACT essay??!?

I did really bad on my ACT essay, a 25 and my overall score is a 31. I’m afraid that if I send my scores colleges will think something is kinda fishy. I don’t know why I did horrible, I thought I did really well. So what did I do wrong? What are they looking for and how can I do better?
Also, with a really bad essay like that, is it going to lower my chances significantly? And what if I send the score over to a college that doesn’t require an essay? Are they going to care?

You’re actually in the top 10%-20% Percentile according to many articles and blogs. This happens more than you think - students with a great comp score but a low writing scores - it means nothing to most. I have a 33C and a 21W. If you browse around in this subforum more, you’ll see there are a lot of people are like that. You’ll be fine.

@RiceFarmer Really?? Oh my gosh that’s such a relief

Magnamious… don’t sweat the ACT Essay score. Colleges aren’t looking at them (especially this year) because they know the scores are NO indicator of a student’s writing ability, and the whole scoring system is so messed up that the ACT’s going back to the 2-12 scoring system starting in September. Sweat the common app and other college specific essays instead!

@midtntutor Alright awesome! Thank you!
