My GPA is a 3.78. How does that translate to a percentile rank? I’m applying to places for internships and the applications ask me to state whether I’m in the top 5%, 10%, 15% etc of my class. Any advice?

There’s no way to tell. In some schools, 3.78 is top 5% and in some schools, it can be 20%. You have to speak to your counselor. Some schools also don’t provide that information, so you can leave it blank.

My high school guidance office was able to tell me my class rank (x out of y students), and I calculated my percentile based off of that figure. Speak with your counselor and ask if they can disclose this information for application purposes.

Your school might have its school profile available online, which would disclose the GPA distribution across your graduating class–you’d then be able to extrapolate the decile you’re in. If your school doesn’t officially rank, however, you’re allowed to leave it blank or as N/A.

Best of luck!
