How to find out if based on GPA and test scores if my school is a safety or a reach?

I have tried to do a search and I’ve learned a little about “common data set”. Is this the best way to learn if I should apply ED, EA, or early in a rolling admissions process? I know I want to retake the SAT and ACT again in the fall, but if I can find out if I appear to have met the minimum requirements, maybe I should go ahead and apply before taking the tests again?

I know that my portfolio interview will weigh very heavily on admission, but some schools seem to pre-screen academically or must be academically accepted before the interview.

I might be overthinking this but it’s stressing me out in a HUGE way. Can anyone please point me in the right direction?

There is a site called capped that does “predictions” (which I would take with a HUGE grain of salt) and also offered the “average” stats for admitted and denied students (which can be verified on other sites as well) Again, it would NOT hold any of this to be hard data… but my D used it when planning out non audition BA programs at LACs that she planned to use as her “safeties” (hers were Muhlenberg, Kenyon and Denison)

Collegedata.com has all the gpa and test score info listed for all schools… average and low/high.

Does your school have Naviance? It has charts showing GPA/test score grids for students who applied to specific schools. It is only as good as the data entered by your school, though. if you have it and some schools aren’t showing up because of a note that too few students applied, ask your GC (they may be able to give you an idea).

Cappex - not “capped” sorry, caught that after the edit period

We do have Naviance but they’ve just started so there isn’t much data on it. Thank you all!

Also take into account that for even the most rigorous schools the expectations for Arts majors is somewhat different than for Science (other) majors. So if a school looks to be a reach academically, but you believe your portfolio/experience puts you at the head of your peer group, don’t be afraid to go for it. For a school like UM, CMU, yes, they look at GPA etc. to see if you meet a “minimum” standard (a little different for Arts programs), but the decision is ultimately made based on your pertinent skill set. As for ED/EA, most schools (at least for MT BFA, not sure if it’s same for tech), the decision-making in the theatre program is on a TOTALLY separate timeline from the rest of the school at large. There will be department/program application deadlines to meet that are separate from EA/ED requirements - academic scholarship deadlines will be the same - and in most cases theater students do NOT have the EA/ED option because they may not have had audition/portfolio review, or know if they are accepted to the program until well past those deadlines. Most students (at least MT BFA) wait until ALL offers of acceptance/financial aid/scholarship are received before make a final commitment anyway - generally between March and May. So unless you have a VERY clear first choice that you KNOW you will be accepted to - and can afford to go there regardless of financial aid offer - EA/ED is not much of an option.
