This is not referring to the process of studying. I only want to know the process of getting a seat to take the AP Exam. I have never done this before but i want to give it a try. For past self study’ers, what did you have to do to get a seat taking an AP exam outside of your school? Your help is appreciated.

Ask your school AP coordinator. In my case, I just filled out our regular AP test form and indicated that I was going to take some self-study tests. When test day rolled around, my school just hired a substitute teacher to proctor the test for me in a spare classroom.

^This.

If your school refuses (for whatever reason), find a nearby school and contact them.

so my counselor really doesn’t want us to do this (i don’t think we have one AP Coordinator). Is there anyway to get around this

Your school must have an AP coordinator - that is the person designated by the college board to order AP tests and fill out the necessary forms.

Contact local schools.

My school takes the AP exams at a local community college. Would my school have an AP coordinator? I’ve never heard of a school doing this.

So I contact schools in my city that have an outstanding AP program, but their coordinators said they do not allow it. Now what?

You’re out of luck. My district won’t let us self-study AP’s either.

People: USUALLY the AP Coordinator is a counselor.

Well I’m not giving up yet, I’ll keep asking around. Hopefully I have some luck.

That honestly sucks. Go find a private school near where you live and contact them. Maybe that will work.

Source(s): I go to a private school and self studied for AP Comp Gov last year.

You also have to consider that you WILL be counted absent and it probably will be unexcused if you go through with this.

DavidtheNerd: Although i have had perfect attendance for two straight years. I think i’m ok giving it up.

yankeefreak127: I have to consider it. I actually went to private school for elementary school so it just might work.
