How to get accepted from waitlist?

Hey,

I got waitlisted by Duke. Right now, it is first choice, and I would definitely attend if I get off the waitlist.

What are the best methods to try to get off the waitlist?

I am definitely going to write a letter, but what should that include? I’ve also heard that making your counselor call would help, but is this actually true?

Thanks in advance,

When you waitlisted for a class, you are not yet register to it. It also means that you are a student waiting to be accepted to the class by the instructor.

■ Once you are waitlisted, try to attend the class on the first day of school. This shows the instructor that you really want to take the class.
■ Attend the class every day on its day.
■ Try to do all the homework/assignment that are given and turn it.
■ Chances are, the registered student to the class you are waitlisted to will drop on the first few days of school for unknown reason. That will open some seats for the waitlisted students and hopefully the instructor will accept you to the class. seat

Did you know… at my college, on the first week of school, class gets so freakin full that other student had to waitlist or cannot register for it. Then later on the mid-semesters, around half of the students are already gone (either dropped or left).

I think Leev18 misread the OP’s question

It seems like a long shot at Duke (at least with the size of the listlast year), but in this article from the NY Times,Guttentag give a little advice - send in a letter and/or video…

luck haha
well luck plus written commitments that you’ll accept the offer 100%, that you LOVE Duke, what you’ve been up to since you applied, etc. The more useful info (within reason) the better. Just keep reminding them you want to come.
